Thor's 400w DWC Closet grow

Panda film on almost every inch of a 2 foot deep 5 foot wide 8 foot tall closet. 400w mh/HPS light system on its way to my house now. Ordered last night. The red circle on the wall is blood... i fell off the chair i was on putting the panda film up and fell backwards and hit my head on the corner of that weight bench in the bottom right of the pic. that night (night before last) I spent 3 hours in the ER. Got 2 staples in my head now. lol. atleast its done!



I have a 10 gallon rubbermaid type tot filled with 6 gallons of 1-2ppm distilled water. 2 five inch plastic nets filled with hydroton with 2 inch rockwool cubes in the middle cut into the lid.



Inside I got a 5 inch airstone hooked to a 15 gallon airpump.





I'm using General Hydroponics Advanced Nutrients. Floragro, floramicro, and florabloom.



Right now the water is 160ppm after mixing in the nutes.

Got a 6'' axial fan that will be installed when the light is installed.


Also have a carbon filter that I will install when the odor is noticeable.



This is my 2nd grow ever. My 1st grow was in soil and with CFLs. Inside my rockwool cubes are 2 very promising seedlings. After 14 hours of being in water in the cabinet they had very healthy taproots. One taproot was almost an inch long. They were seeds from a buddy of mine that came down from colorado. They were bagseed from several bags he had and i dont know which are which cause i had 5 seeds and only 2 germinated. They got mixed together. It's either chocolate chunk, strawberry cough, special reserve, purple haze or sensi star. Possible it could be any of those. We will see.

I'm pretty excited about this grow. I hope the light arrives soon. I want to have it up and ready for when they sprout. But we'll see. If anyone has any advice to offer it would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty new to this. Thanks.

Both sprouted 1 is 1 inch the other is just coming through now. room is 78 degrees F humidity is 48%.

I hung the hooks for the 400w which should be here on thursday. Also finished the door.

Also hung the hooks and cut the hole in the door for the exhaust fan. but the fan is way loud. I dont know what to do to make it quieter... any ideas? its a 246 6 inch axial fan.

setup looks verynice, im going to lurk here more often and see how things go.

And this is my new tent door i installed. It rolls up i have CFLs hanging in there now so i couldnt close it all the way. This is just to get an idea of the door.

So i decided im going to buy this fan. I read some product reviews and it blows more cfm then my current axial fan and it's suppose to be pretty quiet in comparison. illl order it this weekend.

Carbon filter --> stanley blower--> exhaust outside of the closet.

I just hope that the blower in conjunction with the filter will be enough to exhaust the heat from the closet effectively... we will see i guess.

My 400w light system arrives tomorrow! I am so excited. When it is all set up i will finally see if my exhaust fan will be enough to keep my room temps down.

As of tonight. 1 is 1 1/2 inch tall and the other is 2/3 an inch tall. The taller one has a small little white root coming out the bottom of the net pet. Im so proud.

I do have a light question. Someone told me to put them under 24 hour light until they are established then cut them back to 18/6. Is this correct? If so when exactly will they be established?

400w HPS ballast with MH conversion bulb has arrived!

My sproutlings are looking vibrant and green and full of life. Their little baby leaves are pristine and unblemished.

I'm in the process of hanging my light now. Update soon.

How far away from my 2 inch sprouts should I keep my light?

the 400w MH is up and running. My temps have reached 95 degrees F with this thing! What should I do too cool down these temps?!

24/0 and 18/6 is debatable but I like 18/6 because less light time = less heat. Also, since the light cycle isn't super critical now you can leave your closet door open to keep the temps down until you find a solution. I keep my 400w like 9 inches away from the top of the foliage. As close as it can be without burning or causing excessive temps.

I have the 236cfm axial fan hooked up thats exhausting already so these temps i posted are with that fan exhausting

I also have a big box fan blowing on inside to help circulate the air within. Im using passive intake.

Dropped my house temp down to 72 from 78 and plugged the light back in with the door shut. Temps got to 93 then i opened the door and put the fan blowing into the closet from outside. Going to see if that helps at all.

temp stopped at 89 with the door open and the fan that was inside now blowing from outside into the open door. I am thinkin bout going to a store and buying another fan to put inside the closet as a temporary fix to drop my temp till a month or so when i can get a air cooled reflector.

What im doing for my grow right now, which is in my bedroom closet for now, and then they'll go to a completely different room when I start cloning...
I have my 400w about 12-16" from my sprouts and they're loving it with the nutes they're feeding on. I have a fan on the shelf above the light blowing the hot air out of the closet, basically I have my A/C around 70-72 and the cool air comes into the closet while the hot air is being blown out.
Like I said once I get to the stage where I can take clippings for cloning im moving everything to an empty room so it will no longer be a closet grow, but thats what im doing for now.
