Tincture, Lotions, Topical Creams/oils, have questions

OK so I broke my heel almost two months ago and the pain has subsided a lot compared to the first few weeks, thank god! But I still get some shooting pains and my Achilles Tendon cramps up or hurts from stretching/using it from time to time, in addition to the arthritis pain I get in my ankle from time to time from breaking it 4 times in the last 6 years!

I have a friend that told me when he was a teen, he had a friend who's mother made this rubbing alcohol mixture out of weed. The way he describes it, makes it sound like all she did was make a tincture and put it on a rag and rub it on the soar muscles/area, basically rubbing alcohol with weed in it. So, I know that alcohol is sometimes use in a massage to loosen up muscles and that makes sense, but adding the weed? Is this the best method for this type of application? I have heard of creams and lotions with Cannabinoids in them, would this be better? how do you make a cream or lotion?

...I know I can probably find something typically cheaper, like a non-odor form of Icy Hot or Ben Gay, but still I am interested in figuring out useful ways to deal with my extra trim next month and I have two other family members that complain about persistent joint pain, so I figure it could be something I would actually use if I made it and it worked.

Thanks in advance for any comments about this!

Thanks JollyG,

I will check that out, I do know how to make a tincture and have made several in the past, not an expert but know enough to get it made.

Maybe I should have asked a little different, I was more wondering the effects of absorption through the skin (how long it takes to feel effects, strength, mental effects if any in other words can you get high or is it good for times you don't want to 'feel' high, ect.) and how creams and lotions are made.. is it just as easy as making a tincture and rubbing it on your skin instead of drinking it (hopefully, this is obvious if you are using rubbing alcohol, I personally don't think it is a good idea to drink rubbing alcohol)? Do I just add this tincture to a cream or lotion I use like Lubriderm or other hand cream?

never made any of those so i cant answer but i am interested in finding out.
hopefully someone educated in this matter can give the answer you are looking for.

Google/search function here is your friend as there are as many different ways to make tinctures as there are personalities. If you have access to ethanol that is the best with everclear/grain alcohol being a close second.

A good ratio to start with is 1 gram of product to 1 oz. of alcohol. Use dry product and makes sure it is chopped up fairly fine. Soak the product for 7 to 30 days depending on the materials used and individual plant matter....a little experimenting is needed as each batch will vary a bit. Make sure the plant material is always covered and give it a quick shake daily. After it has soaked for the time needed strain the concoction saving the liquid to be put in a medicinal grade glass vial (amber being best with blue being a close second) and store in a cool dark place. Avoid using a plastic container for long periods of time as the grain alcohol will leach some of the chemicals out of the plastic unless it is specifically made for alcohol/food.

You can take the strained material and run it through again to be sure all of the compounds have been leached, I have found this necessary only when I didn't use enough alcohol. The tincture can be stored indefinitely with no loss of potency, it can be rubbed in to the muscles/joints or taken orally via drops. I use it topically several times daily on my knees as I have had both replaced.....kicks the crap out of anything pharmaceutical that I have used.
I was planning on making a new batch up in a few weeks when my product is ready and will make a tek for it with photos so keep an eye out ;)
Hope this helps. :joint:

Thanks, like I said I do know how to make tinctures and have done a few, they are really pretty easy to make, once again, it's lotion/creams I don't know about and was the real reason for post.

Thank for letting me know about rubbing it on and that this method will work though that was helpful thanks.

If anyone else knows a method for making a cream or lotion let me know please. Of course if I run across an answer elsewhere I will post.

For a cream or lotion you would want an extraction method that is not alcohol based as it won't mix well with a carrier oil or cream. I will have to experiment with that as I have never done a cream/lotion. I order from Essential Oils.Pure,Organic,Natural,Wholesale Aromatherapy Essential Oil.Carrier oils, absolutes, cosmetic bases, soap making for my essential oils and cosmetic bases, check out their carrier oils and lotions. If you want a non cannabis alternative try mixing the following essential oils (can be used with cannabis as well):
Lavender, devils claw and cayenne pepper
Great for arthritic pain.
Here is some info on making creams (sorry for the pic, scanner is down so I just took a photo....left it full size for readability)

And ointments:

If they are hard to read pm me and I can upload them elsewhere real large, hope this sets you on the right path.
