Tiny little flies in my cupboard - what should i do?

Hey folks, just noticed today that there seems to be an increasingamount of tiny little black flies ( by tiny i mean you can barely see them ) in my cupboard growroom.

I flushed my plants a couple days ago, when they were in the bath room i sprayed some bug spray in the cupboard and let it air out, then i put my plants back. There wasnt many at that point i could see, but after watering them today there seems to be more of them.

Plants seems fine no damage or anything, but that could change?

Been reading some forums, most people say these are gnats? Im in the UK, btw, never heard of these things.

Now, can someone help with this? Plants are nearing end of flowering, couple weeks left maybe slightly longer.

Should i put potato slices on the soil? Does this help?

Cheers :peace::leaf::peace::leaf::peace:

well usually bug spray kills bugs, but not the eggs they planted prior to the spraying, and wont effect them after hatching. its good to fight bugs over a week or so, ensuring that any hatchlings also get some death. little tiny whiteflies are common where i am at, but tiny black flies... no idea. either way, get rid of them. no bugs are good other than earthworms, and lady bugs (they eat other bugs). People say to use neem oil, i used a bottle before called Safer 3in1 http://www.saferbrand.com/store/garden-care/5462 i was a big fan of it, i used it over a few weeks and it worked great.

whatever you do, id start it at a low strength, and build up gradually. I would go to any garden center and tel them your growing vegetables and you got bugs.that way they give you something that wont hurt you!

Potato slices in the soil is a new one for me. never heard of that.

Had a little look for it again, here it is

They are fungus gnats,

I have the same problem, all you have to do it place slices of potato on top of the soil.

Don't let people tell you they are harmless, they lay larva in your soil and these larva will feed off your plants root system.

If they get really bad get neem oil.

By using the potato slice the adult flys will lay their eggs inside the potato as opposed to the soil, just throw away the potato after like 4 hours and replace with a new slice. Repeat until they are gone.

Adult gnats will die in 5 days, they key is to kill the next generation.
