Titan timer delay

Hi all, new to growing but have been trying to do my homework, I bought a 4 x 4 x 7 grow tent and a 250 and 400 ( cool tube ) ( I know should have gone air cooled, but too late now ) watt grow light, will be using 15 gl prune bags and a 6 inch fan and filter combo. I know that hot starts on a hid light is very bad ( power goes out for short durations about 4 to 10 times a year) so I also bought a Titan 15 min delay timer...problem is, why have I never heard of any one using this timer? is there a reason for this? and if so...Why? is this a good idea, or not so good...and why? thanks for any and all input... BTW the Titan timer cost me $56 bucks which I felt was way too much, but at least it bought me peace of mind...got me some BB seeds and can't wait to get started... seeds get planted tomorrow and I will keep notes, trust me...detailed notes.

Been throwing this idea around about making some homemade fertilizer as I have some cans of coke sitting around here from the last family gathering, my question is would using the Coke for Phosphorous, non detergent ammonia for nitrogen and some wood ash for K be a bad Idea? if I ever did do this I would also use unsulphured Molasses for trace minerals , what say you all?

Hi, yeah you can't/shouldn't immediately fire up a HID ...personally I use a aquarium controller; cost me $50 and has a hysteresis for HID...

Anyway, many/most proly have their lights on a timer already and don't worry about the on/off thing with HID...otherwise in so far as Titan controls being a name brand; I dunno I've seen/heard them mentioned a lot, hell I got one myself....just not for delaying a HID start-up

Thank you for your input, I will be using a regular timer with this set up also, the delay timer is for when the power goes out for a few seconds to prevent a hot restart
