TMV infected my fav pheno

Sad day for me, been cloning this pheno out (avatar photo) for over 5 years. Was a beautiful plant with great structure and colors and an amazing taste and high. About a year ago I started noticing strange symptoms which I thought was a nutrient problem, or possibly soil pH. Spent many months tinkering trying to solve it. Sometimes I'd be able to get them growing well again for a few weeks only to have all the issues return again. After doing more research on TMV i'm certain this is my problem.

I'm a cigarette smoker and knew about this virus but thought it only affected growers who rolled their own cigarettes and were actually handling the tobacco. Never occurred to me that the virus could also be on the paper of pack cigarettes. I also wasn't aware how easily transferable it is. So now I have to start all over. Have to toss all my plants, soil, fabric pots. Sanitize grow room and all equipment and start a new pheno hunt for something quality.

I had planned to be smoking this pheno for the rest of my life, honestly kinda feels like I lost a member of my family lol. So take it from me, If you're a tobbacco user, you have to wear disposable gloves whenever working on your plants. That includes every aspect of plant care from mixing soil to handling garden tools. Just washing your hands before is not enough.

If the plant is that much of a keeper, I’d send a slip to a Tissue Culture lab for Meristem Culture Propagation. There are a few labs who will culture out the plant for you, and send you back a clean cut, but it takes months and isn’t cheap. Just mentioning that this as I feel a lot of keeper plants get tossed when found to be sick, but with nowadays technology that doesn’t have to be the only answer.

Thanks, I might consider looking into that. What kind of price range are we talking about to get that done?

I’ve heard from around $400-$1000 per plant depending on how long it takes them to get the cut clean. Sometimes it’s a few rounds of culturing, several months each round. I think it just depends on how badly infected the plant material is.
