to do or not to do? 24hrs of complete dark b4 harvest?

Hello all!! this is gonefishen's friend "swim" but you all can call me gonefishen
got a quick question for you fellow growers.
on swim's 4th grow right near the end and his buds look outstanding as usual.
however SWIM has read here and there that b4 harvest you should leave your girls in 24 to 36 hrs darkness b4 harvest.(SWIM has never done this b4 and his buds are bomb)
so his question is why?
have you done both? did you really see a difference?
he'd love yo hear from some peeps who have tried both
and see what your opinions on the concept are..
(strains in pics are Whiteberry, Chocolate Chunk, Bubba Kush & Hindu Kush )

it makes the plant think it is dying today and needs to release every last drop of sexy goodness into the buds.

I believe there was a study regarding thc levels before and after receiving light. Extended periods of darkness were said to elevate levels. I will try to dig up where I read that . But I always give em 36 hrs

I do it because it makes sense. They grow during the dark periods the most like humans so more dark = more growth.
