Too many Act. Carbon Filters?

Making plans on building my first grow box. Put together plans last night, along with an almost done material list. So the box is going to be basically a wooden cabinet, with the approximate deminisions of 5 Ft Tall, 3 Ft in length, and 2-2.5 Ft deep.

The box will be split into 2 sections, top and bottom. Flowering on top, Veg on bottom. Lighting system will be built into both halves, and yadda yadda yadda. I had in my plans for like 5 PC fans built into the right side of the box per half, so that would be 10 pc fans and 10 activated carbon filters for the entire thing. Gonna try for 5-8 plants to start, before getting experience under my belt.

Basically I want to know if this would be to many filters and fans as if it were to lower the temperature of the box to which it would damage the plants. I'm saving up some dough to put this together and wouldn't be ready until March or April, so it would start to be warming up around them. So too many fans and filters? I do live in a huge house divided into 4 apartments, mine being my own :)

I will make another post as describing the box in better detail here soon and possibly link it up. Thanks guys, and I'm a newbie, dreaming big.

5 feet tall cut in half... so you will have 2- 2 1/2 foot tall sections. i dont see how you would have room height wise for the flowering stages unless you grew a short plant ( indica ) or even auto flower strain. I would say start off with 2-3 plants your first grow in this box to see how you will do when they start to grow taller in flowering stage then the next grow add 1-2 more just so you know you have the room.

if you go with 10 PC fans i would put 2-4 on 1 plug so in the future if the box does start to get hot you can add 2-4 more by plugging it into your timer. i think blowing 10 at the same time may be a little over kill for the days where it isnt as hot in the grow area. As for the filters. in your case being in an apt with near by people. i dont think this would be total overkill but close to it.

Hate to say it but with each new grow box it comes down to trial and error. which i feel in your case smell is going to be the number 1 thing unless the fellow house mates dont mind and smoke as well. but then you got to worry about guests of the house mates.

If you were going to make this area for personal smoke i would say just use the same for veg and flower. but something tells me you may want to make a little on the side as well. Which i am all for getting some extra living money to recover costs and pay for the electric bill.

Always make your flower area bigger then veg. 3-4 feet tall would be a good start. but still be careful of some Sativa strains, During Flowering they can really take off on you. do some good research on what you are going to grow and how tall the plant mite get.

You know something i should have asked this... what type of growing will you be doing. hydro/ soil? CFL or mh/hps? I know you are in the CFL area but it never hurts to ask and be sure. Because you do have to take into account how tall of a bucket you would be using for Soil grows. just a 6.5qt bucket gives you 10 or so inches less grow room height wise. so a one time 4foot room is now a little over 3 foot. As for lights you cant put a HPS/MH as close to the canope as you can with CFLs. SO you would need a taller box for hps/mh.

You hit it pretty well, going to want to get a little money back after i get the experience. I will research the strain im going to grow (Jock Horror), and I want to do CFL, as thats what iv primarily been digging through and learning about. So what i'll probably end up doing is just buying a 5 back of feminised seeds from Nirvana, and just start with 2 until all the way done. That way i can adjust and such, and then move on to clones. Question, will seeds stay good for a couple months? I've heard you can freeze them, yes? Alrighty, well thanks for the input, really appreciate the help, RollitUp saves lives for reallll

Happy turkey day
