First grow (I've helped out with others, but never did one completely on my own) and I already have an odd story. Has this happened to anyone else? I tried to grow last year, but started far too late. One of the seeds I tried to sprout wouldn't, but I had placed it in some seed starter soil so I tossed this soil back into a bag for the next season as I grow non-marijuana plants pretty often. I guess the seed was still in there and, apparently, it was still viable. When I sprouted my seeds this year using that same soil, only a couple ended up viable. One died right after poking it's head out of the ground, but I decided to give it a little bit to see what would happen. Suddenly, another sprout popped its head out, even though I know I only planted one seed per container (and, given the location of the second sprout, I'm quite sure it wasn't from the original seed. Given that its a bit of an underdog (not to mention it's a leftover Trainwreck seed I obtained while living in Humboldt), I'm really hoping that one ends up being female.
Question # 2: Anyone ever try to grow Trainwreck outdoors in the midwest? Typically it's considered a little long to finish. I'm hoping the far warmer, sunnier conditions in this area help speed that along a little.
Question # 3: The danger of frost is gone. At what point would the experienced growers move these little guys outdoors?
Question # 4: How far apart would a male have to be from a female to ensure (or at least greatly decrease) the chance of pollination? If I do end up with one male, I'd like to pollinate a branch...but no more than that! As they aren't in the ground yet, I have a little room to play with.
Thanks in advance.
