Most DIYers on these forums use COB's they are a lot easier to work with and I from what I have seen on a few peoples grows on the forums they can be pretty impressive (GG's drone). Price wise I think the COB's are the way to go as well. Hopefully someone more helpful can chime in and help you and good luck.

IIRC supra recommended a 1:1:4 ration with 3000K cobs or white leds. However I don't think he's building anything with monochromes anymore.

Just stick with some 3000k cobs like the CXA or vero lineup. Cheaper, simpler, just as effective. What's not to love?

red to blue 5:1 plus 3000k white is good you could add some deep red and other blues if you want but the 3000k white would take care of most of that

I`d run between 30 and 70% monochrome otherwise you`ll miss out on some emmerson effect

It's not a huge difference with a really dialed in spectrum. Yes a dialed in spectrum does produce better but for 90% of people I would recommend cxa3070 3000k with a few 5000k cobs.
between price, ease of build, ease of swapping parts at a later date and cost per par cobs are unbeatable.
