Tried a new germanation method

I was gifted 15 tasty Gorilla Grape X ( Gorilla Grape/Fire Alien Kush) seeds.

I soaked the seeds in distilled water at 77-78 degrees overnight,
then transfered them to sit between two saturated sponges put inside a sandwich size tupperware container, that container was floated in a 18 quart tupperware tub half filled with water with a 50 watt aquairium heater keeping the water at 78 degrees and the top placed on top of the tub.

This keeps a steady temperature with appropriate humidity for the seeds to have a better chance to germinate. It maybe be over the top for some, but I plan on germinating a lot of seeds in the future and $10 a seed or more is a lot to risk (to me) over a paper plate.

After 36 hours 13 of the 15 seeds germinated!!

Fair play, whatever works for you. I do the wet paper towels method between two plates and leave the plates on my modem, seems to keep things at just the right temp, usually germ by 18 - 48hrs.

I can't take credit for this..I read about it somewhere..can't remember now..I'm holding out for the other two to germ...one was spongy before I started, so I'm not sure if it was viable from the start.

I got these seeds late, all my others were started much earlier and are already 2+ feet tall.

Nice idea, petert! Eliminates any chance of frying the seeds. I always soak for a day then place in a wet paper towel, bag it up and set it on the cable box. I learned it from peeps on RIU years ago, the example when I learned it was on a VCR. Ya'll remember VHS tapes?! lol old school

Ha..ha.. great minds think alike it seems

I don't know why more peeps don't do the modem method, works like a charm.... i tried the ballast method but that's far too hot, the modem method ftw [

Then there was that one guy who always spilt his beer on the VCR ....Grrrr!

I do have a purpose built 'hot box' with a 40w bulb inside, but the modem is on always and holds 70f/25c real well
with a DIY rack covering the modem it holds 4, 4 inch pots at the recommended temp, very well
totally hate that f*** modem too, least I have an alt use

Very creative! I just germinate mine straight in soil and get about an 85-90% success rate...BUT...I produce a lot of my own seeds so it's no big deal when one or tow don't germinate. But still if one were to spend 10-15 bucks per seed then, yeah, whatever increases your odds of germination is the way to go.

I'm old school and it does seem over the top to me, but when you get results like that and you have faith in the method you use, than that's the right method for you. Good Luck & Keep Em Green !!
