Well a lot of people trim off the lower 1/4 or 1/3 of branches and leaves so that growth is focused on top branches, and produce larger buds.

Otherwise you end up with a lot of popcorn buds (which I don't mind for hash-making).

Cut some clones before you flower. That way you can take some branches off the lower part of the plant and put them to good use.

That would depend on the kind of grow you are doing. Let us assume you are doing a sea of green grow. You are placing in your flowering room an x amount of plants trying to produce top colas. Then if you lollipopped your bottom small arms that would shoot the growth hormone to the top of the plant to concentration on the growth of top colas. If that is the case with you then by all means manipulate those small lower branches. Now lets say if your goal is flowering small number of plants and trying to obtain high overall yield then do not take the bottom branches off at all then LST ( low stress training) the whole plant to illuminate the bottom portion of your plants to get those popcorn buds to actual yield something.

do what you want man. do 2 don't trim and one trim and see what you like better. it's a learning process so i'd say just try them both.

I usually have all my lower branches and sucker branches trimmed off a few weeks before turning them but I am always pulling off leaves right throughout the grow. I would want to have all the major trimming done at least 1-2 weeks before turning them so they have time to recover and adjust.

And yes get rid of the foil.
