Trimming question

So I've got a pretty thick canopy in my scrog. 1000w HPS, 5x5 with 7 plants. My question is how much of the lower bud sites and leaves should I remove. I see real scrogs have zero bud and leaf below canopy, and some peopl leave lots. I'm just wondering what's better for yield and quality. Let's say mold isn't an issue for now but if it does become an issue I'll be trimming lots. Thoughts?

Lol that's why I started a thread. All the stuff about it is hard to read through with guys just arguing and no real advice. I'm really tempted to cut off everything from about 3" above the point where I topped down. I'm thinking the tiny bud sites in there probably aren't even worth keeping. I guess I'm kinda asking that too. Will those tiny bud sites on the bottom even be worth smoking?

little late to make much difference but the stuff real close to the soil should go be safe and clean it up a foot or so from the soil, nice.

Really? because to me now it reads to me like it is asking about Trimming, as in dried buds.

I know (well I think) you're thinking of mass chemical defoliation, which is also defoliation... but that wasn't the first thing to popped into my head... since he wasn't talking about Agent Oranging Vietnam.

You may have missed the 17 page argument on defoliating thats raged all day.

Trimming and pruning are not defoliation. Which of coarse Agent Orange did as it was a defoliant.

Maybe..maybe not..could make butter, hash or oil or something outa them??

The light you're using only has a specific range where it will produce great density cannabis flowers. You can tell when a budsite is below this range, it will begin growing a stem out and away from the branch, to bring the bud closer to the light.

At about week 2 you can see this stem growth happening. Clip off any bud sites and leaves at this level and below. This directs all flowering resources to the top buds, within the optimal light zone. You'll be rewarded with ALL your harvest weight being the same density and quality of cannabis.

Lower larf is less mature and poor quality, why grow it?

I did miss most of that... just caught a bit... but we are here, and I am looking for clarity... so then this should be Pruning and Defoliating, since he was asking about removing lower branches and leaves. I still think of trimming as dry bud trimming... unless they're talking about cutting parts of leaves (like the edges or tips) on the live plant... then we need some new term.

I would totally count pruning as defoliation... in the sense that it reduces leaf count... but obviously not as defoliation as in "removal of laves" which specifically means ONLY of leaves.

ugh 19 pages of forum postings ... I'll try to read more of it though, sounds like it should be interesting
