Its a shame they had to slap a 1200w label on that light, I actually like it, there are more efficient ones by a fair amount but for the price its nice.
Still a tad under powered though, I would want 300w minimum with that.

That 315cmh BigHornBuds linked would be my choice for 3x3.

I may try to source the parts separately to save a few bucks if I can figure out which ones I need.
I'd like to be able to 300 watts.

I have the Cree brand version of these and they actually work great. I probably overpaid for mine but I had to have the Cree brand. They have them labeled wrong they are 54w not 100w and they got received some negative ratings because of it. They are supposed to be as good as the Cree brand with a lower price. They probably have even better priced ones out there than this. I like the higher wattage COB LEDs myself.

just so you know those aren't quantum boards they're knockoffs

not that I know much about them, but the markings on them don't say quantum board or horticultural lighting group on them

although that is 100$ cheaper for the unit, you also aren't sure how this compares to their lights

maybe the real question here is, how does this light actually compare to an HLG light. The answer I think would be taking a chamber and hanging both lights an equal distance away and taking certain readings and whatnot to evaluate what they output differently

however there are also alot of people on this site that post about knockoff HLG and how much they suck. I just need to dig it up for you. Its good you posted on this! It could also still be a good grow light for just a lower cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I first bought an off brand cmh from Amazon. Under 200. It came with a bulb that had no name just 3100k cmh bulb. The cheapest looking packaging I've ever seen. The description on Amazon for the ballast said "super cute and light".

I bought it anyway not knowing if it was a real square sine wave ballast or not. Worked ok. Then I bought more. 8 of the ones with phillips bulbs. That ad said the ballast had the correct square wave form. They were like 250 each.

Now, I use the cheap-o for veg. When I hang it next to the better ones there is a slight color difference. Very slight with the cheapo being just a little more yellow and the phillips being more white. I'm pleased with both lamps.
