I had a handful of grows years ago, but this is my first one back after a long time. I'm going totally organic and have decided on the Blue Mountain Organics (BMO) line of nutes. Back in the day I used Miracle-Gro soil and ferts.
These plants are about 2 weeks above soil. The soil mix is Ocean Forest with 20% added perlite. Lights are 400 watts of T5. Temps are mid 70's with 40-50 percent humidity. I've been using a humidifier near the intake of my closet to raise the RH since without it it's only about 30 percent.
Up until yesterday I have given the plants nothing but plain distilled water. Yesterday I decided to give them a half strength dose of BMO's Super Plant Tonic. The plants themselves have shown no detrimental effect. In fact they look even greener than before. I did notice some green algae on top of the soil though which I haven't noticed before. Also, the plants seem to have used very little water since then. When using regular water, the plants are about halfway dry at this point. I can only guess that the algae has created a layer on the top of the soil preventing moisture from escaping.
My plans at this point are to lower the humidity and point a fan on them. From what I've read, a little alage isn't much to worry about, but I figured I'd ask about it anyway since this problem didn't occur until I used the Super Plant Tonic from BMO.
Thanks.
