Used LED advice

Hey guys and gals,

I am looking at purchasing a LED light to start a small grow. I found on my local ad's a used Stealth Grow SG 602, they want $500 for it. This sounds like a good deal, being that it is $1,599 on their site brand new. The seller says he has used it for roughly 800 hours. Is there anything I should be concerned out be looking for when buying a new LED light?

Thanks,

It says actual power draw is 400W bit that is draws 3A at 110V. So it could be much lower. If it draws 330VA and the drivers are not power factor corrected, it could be as low as 200W LED dissipation. So you could be paying $2.50/W for mystery LEDs (very bad to have mystery LEDs in this business).

I would highly recommend against the stealth grow. One alternative I can offer, You could buy the Onyx Bloom brand new for $450 and it dissipates 210W of Cree XML2 3000K with known bins.

Glad to see you pushing a good light. I probably won't buy anything but rapid onyx in the future.

have you seen how Onyx have changed their warranty now????

that's a nice flat fee + shipping
how was it changed? I know the reef models were 18 months warranty and then after that a 75 dollar flat rate to fix anything that may go wrong.
The grow onyx I see was 18 months and 200 dollars flat rate after the warranty was up.

What? I thought 200 was kinda high. I was a fairly early customer and locked into a pretty good deal. I hope warranty and issues aren't a problem though.
So far so good.

after the warranty is up I suspect any company would charge shipping.
I'm still with them because I see the potential in the light. But at 300 to fix I'd scrap it for what it was worth and buy a new one . Rapid told me up front that the flat rate to fix would be higher than the reef models modest 75 bux but they didn't know how much more at the time.

Seems like it would be an excellent candidate to retrofit with bayonet connecters and COBs, making it essentially future-proof

Then again, with mean well power supply and Cree XML2, it doesnt seem likely that components will fail very often. If something did fail, you could always modify the lamp rather then spend $300.

408bay- It's a little far, but in Martinez @ Emerald City Gardens, a couple of these guys are testing them now and are happy so far. If you what to see one at the store, ask for Bo, tell him you would like to see and possibly order from him.

I agree. As long as their builds are halfway decent(and they are solid from what I have seen) they should last with no problems.
But 300 to fix or 450 for a whole new one. Buy a brand new one then you have a scrapyard of the perfect components for later(except the one that failed). So maybe then again I might not get a second if that were the case. But you get what I mean...a little steep for sure.

But more than half of you should be able to a simple driver swap without having to ever deal with warranty. Only a chip or board issue would have me tapping into that warranty...I believe in myself more than anyone or company.
