Thanks for any advice. I’ve greatly enjoyed making butter and oil in recent months and appreciate the expertise here.
The last time I decarbed kief (@240f for around 35 minutes) it turned into a carmel-like substance, and some stuck permanently to the foil that I had placed it in (which I placed onto a cookie tray in the oven). It worked out fine, and the kief separated into the coconut oil effectively, but there was some wasted material and perhaps I over-cooked stuff a bit(?). I thought I had spread it out pretty well, but that wasn’t necessarily the best thing anyway, as the heated kief stuck to the foil. Any recommendations for a better surface on which to heat the kief? Or better ways to decarb?
I infused the oil in a mason jar, which I placed in a sauce pan with simmering water for around four hours, mixing it around occasionally. Didn’t bother to strain it, as I’m not bothered by the kief, though much did sink the bottom before it solidified. I wondered if that stuff might be more potent, or if a four hour simmer removed the thc from the solid material and I should just strain it next time.
I used three grams of kief (all I had accumulated) and one cup of oil, finding a teaspoon to be a pleasant dose, though I continue to experiment. I would likely have used more kief if I had it, though I can also use less oil. I would welcome recommendations.
Preferred use so far has been to add it to my coffee or tea, which I find pleasant, though some oil invariably sticks to the sides of the cup. Any way to prevent this or to help the oil emulsify (?) into the liquid more effectively? This is not my biggest concern, but also seems a little wasteful. I would welcome any other suggestions for quick application of the oil.
Much appreciated! I’m getting ready to make my next batch!
