uvb lighting

I was doing some research and it seems that uvb light produces more thc, it makes sense because places like australia or columbia grow some of the strongest highest % THC weed and they have the strongest levels of uvb light . i currently have 4 plants all green house seeds day12 of flowering White rhino, train wreck, bubba kush and kings kush under 2 300w 3w leds and 2 40w warm white cfls (this is my first grow) and i wanted to add a uvb light , i cant seem to find much info online and wanted to know, is it to late to add the uvb now should i start with one next grow from the start or from the start of flower? should i use a uvb100 glo 5.0 23w or uvb150 glo10.0 23w ? how high from the plants should i hang it ? and whats the best cycle to run it i heard 6 hours during lights on ?

uvb can indirectly increase cannabinoid production, not specifically thc. its also relies on excess enzymes in the plant and effects arent noticeable in many strains.
if you use it, it should be from the start of flower

Did some research on the topic last year (forgot most of it, forgot why) as fare as I understand its actually a harmful wavelength (both for you and the plants) so the plant react by protecting it self (hence the more trice`s production) but as fare as I can remember its only really useful in the end of flowering (might be good news for you ?) and only for a few hours a day

I would just swap one of the CFLs your have going with a UVB bulb (the 10.0) and hang it in the center of your plants (maybe a ft up between the LEDs and the plants) and use a separate timer and let it run for the last few hours every day for the last few weeks

Thc is only found in trichomes. There are several types of trichome found on every inch of the plant even in veg.. Geranyl pyrophosphate and a precursor to olivetolic acid react, a c12 (for pentyl) c10(for propyl)polyketide, catalysed by an enzyme to produce cannabigerolic acid,. The production of Thc (and propyl)thcv cbd cbdv and cbc cbcv are controlled by 3 different enzymes Thca synthase being the enzyme converting cbga to thc through an oxidative cyclization of the geranyl group on cbga(of course this is a bit simplified for y'all) geranyl diphosphate + olivetolate =cannabigerolate + diphosphate.. cannabigerolate + O(2) = Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinolate + H(2)O(2)

uvr8 is a photoreceptor activated by uv-b and in response will increase production of a precursor to olivetolic acid. an increase in resin content relies on much more than one portion of a precursor... it should be done through flower and will not damage the plant

I use supplemental UV, 160W self-ballasted bulbs...and I've run side by side comparisons on the same clones.

If you can handle the extra heat and electric bill, do it.

There is a long thread on this subject I would have to dig for here.

thanks for the grate info! i think im going to add it when i switch to flowering on my next grow to avoid stress on the plants since im 2 weeks in flowering and this is my first grow i want to avoid as many problems as i can i will also be able to compare the results with and with out the uvb

I've used UVB lights in the past.
They work, but You need to keep the UVB lights close to the plant.
Every couple of days rotate the plant or move the UVB light.

IMO- Your further off to increase trichrome production chemically.
It's a lot cheaper, easier, better results than a UVB light.
I use "Snow Storm" Humbolt makes it. I've been using it for the last 5 years.
Stuff works great. Especially in a Hydro set-up.
You need to keep in mind some strains are not big trichrome producers to begin with.
Results will vary strain to strain.

Good Luck on Your Grow.
