Vertical Growing: Wall mounted boxes save light

I've attached a crude graphic to illustrate the concept. Since t5 bulbs can virtually touch a leaf why not mount the ballast a fixed distance from the wall to sandwich plants between a reflective surface and a light (rock and a hard place). Anyone have suggestions with this setup? An exterior wall or concrete basement wall would offer natural cooling depending on season and region.

My intial intent was to distribute light more evenly through all canopies without losing light to diffusion/distance or misdirection. I want efficiency.

Lowes has great shelving for this application, but a simple L bracket would suffice to mount the grow boxes by using drywall anchors or cement anchors.
