VERY confined grow

Hello, I am a first time grower, but have helped a former roomate with a pretty state-of-the-art set up(clones, MH veg, HPS bloom, organic, F1 strains). I have a pretty good foundation of knowledge when it comes to cannabis cultivation, and my desire to grow my own plants peaked when I moved out and was no longer able to work in the roomates garden(sigh). I decided to work on a little expiriment. I now live in an apt and I know, I know, "never grom in an apt", but fuck it I decided to ignore this advice anyway and give it a try. I have to keep this little expirement of my extra covert because even my girlfriend who lives with me has no idea(and would kill me). What I did was take a carboard box about 2 1/2 feet tall and about a square food at the base, covered the inside with white photocopy paper to reflect light, mounted a couple cfl's to the top and voila', my first grow room. What I am concerned about is ventilation. I cut inlet and outlet holes at the bottom and top, respectively, but I don't know if a small fan is even necessary for such a small area. I only have two seedlings at the moment, so i dont think ill need to worry about it for a little while, but i want to get the most out of them so any advice on ventilation would be appreciated. Also, if I start a 12/12 photoperiod at when the plants reach six inches, are they going to outgrow the box? I plan on topping them, but im still worried about space...

thats a pretty sticky situation. if your girlfriend is living with you id say, "fuck off this is my place"(in MUCH softer words). if you live with her, thats a different story. if its a joint thing yous should tell her. she lives there. she stands just as much risk as you. if yous both cant get along with the idea, well work it out, yeah? if you have 2.5 ft of grow room you can handle a ft of growth veg fairly well, especially if topped. i had my plant, Fimmed. and it didnt get much over a ft and i veged it 5 weeks. it didint do to much after i veged it. i think the pretzel stem slowed verticle growth. check link in sig for more info. good luck friend

See if you can get one of those little hand held fans. You could probably get one in a dollar store. one of those could push enough air out a small space.

The apartment thing would not be to much of a problem... the girlfriend thing.... is a big problem. In my eyes you would have to convince her to first like the idea and go with it ... but then again can you trust her to not tell her friends?

now for the apartment thing... There are alot of problems with apartment growing.

If you enjoy having friends over you will not be able to show any of them or even tell them about it. All it takes is for one person to look in your room when you have a shower or when you go to the washroom even and find your girls. lock and key your own room door >.<

Smell is a big issue when growing in apartment buildings. All it takes is one nabour to smell it and call the cops. get a good source of odor control.

Hydro spikes on the electric bill may alert the landlord and have him snooping around asking questions. Start wasting energy now so when you get the lights going there will be no real spike.

If your parents or your girlfriends parents come over for the weekend or even the night and your near the end of flowering (real stinky).

There are many more. If you plan on doing this in an apartment be careful and keep it to yourself as hard as it may be. I have seen alot of people be successful growing in apartments

your gonna need a carbon filter im guessing tho, keep the sweet smell away from other people living in the apartment.

very good advice darkarms, I'll take all of that into acount. Is the smell really that strong with smaller plants though? I know the ex roomates 5 footers smelled pretty fucking strong and he used a GIANT carbon filter to solve the problem, but I've got no more than two seedlings right now and I plan on flowering them with very little veg time. Also, my building uses radiant heat, so its not like there is vents connecting apts. As for losing the girlfriend I'm not too worried about that, she smokes with me on the couch every night and we've been together over a year. I'm more worried about her finding the little girls and cutting them down about the fan, i'm thinking of using a small pc cooling fan, good idea? i thought it was, shouldn't be too spendy. thanks for the advice so far everyone, those being productive anyway.

ha ha well, if she smokes wiht you i dont think she'll be to eager to cut down some tree's? just my opinion? i mean i got a girl and she doesnt smoke, but she knows not to cut down my shit

I installed a small pc cooling fan today and it works great. i added it to the side of the box and it blows fresh air right on the ladies. i had already cut an exhaust hole near the top and i could feel the warm air blowing off nicely as well. i connected it to a variable d/c power supply i had lying around so i can vary the speed by changing its supply voltage. but i have no idea how long to leave it on. i was thinking keeping it to a nice calm speed setting and turning it off overnight. but i definately dont want to burn them, any suggestions?

Im in sort of the same situation only exception is that my girlfriend doesn't mind ( as long as i share) haha. My space is about a foot bigger on all sides im still prepping it and haven't ordered the seeds yet. but my only concern is what do i do about the smell? this will be my first personal grow and i have parents that like to visit. any suggestions?

how would you hook up a carbon filter to a air system so small? I know how to make a carbon filter ( after very intense browsing of this and other sites) but im thinkin of usin little computer fans to circulate air.

i would hook up an exhaust fan on the other side where the exhaust "hole" is and then i would make a home made carbon filter and try to fit it to the exhaust fan somehow
