warm water causing rootrot

hey guys, how's it going? just checked my girls and she has root rot... the water is way to warm.. i priced chillers for them, bt they're too damn expensive.. can you tell me some ways on how you cool your water? besides ice and freezing bottles..thanks

What's wrong with frozen water bottles? They work great, I used them for years. Just breaking the warm cycle one time per day with one would have probably saved you.

I am, at the moment, cooling my dwc buckets by cool air from outside. I don't know where you live, but if you get temps below 18°C (65F), you should consider trying to vent some outside air directly over the buckets. I have placed some styrofoam directly on top of my buckets (made holes so only plants poke out), so my box is basically split into an upper part where the plants grow and the lower part where the buckets and roots are. It keeps temperature quite well, so it's very easy to keep cool. If you can't use outside air, you could get a small portable AC unit (again I don't know where you live, but where I live one can get a used unit quite cheap (70 USD maybe). and use it to keep temps at the lower part to aout 18°C.

Good insulation will go a long way. I use a regulated ice probe to chill with. I find most chillers are overkill for just chilling nutrient solutions, same with an AC unit.

Add aquashield and hydrosparkle from DNF, cleans roots. Also don't have the water to high in the buckets. If you can buy a water chiller. Put your resevoir outside the growroom. Have a fan blow across the top of the water , it will help bring down temps.

how do u use this to keep the temp down plz seems a very cheap way especially if its fool proof

You just need to get a power adaptor (AC to DC) 60W strong and connect it the right way and it should start cooling (if you connect it the wrong way, it will heat up so you'll know).

I don't know if the element is submersible or if some kind of water protection has to be improvised. If nothing, maybe it could be put beneath the bucket. I have never tried this so i don't know how much this actually cools. If it could keep a 5 gal. bucket cool, it would be sweet.

If you have never used an ice probe, don't waste your money. I was very glad to pass mine on to another sucker.

Ever heard of too good to be true.

Get a cooltube or hood that allows u tofunnel the hot air str8 out instead of allowing the heat to hang around.....I have a small area, 2' w-1 1/2' D- 5' H.

I have a cooltube with 6" inline fan blowing the heat out the top, 2 small fans blowing across the top of the plant & a 180 blower up top bringing in fresh air from a hole @ the bottom of the cab......

I had two in a 25gal res and they added more heat to the area than cooling of the res.

the ice probe works well with small res setups.. the key factor to operation is insulating your res.. that keeps the water at a steady 65 regardless of external temp.. cheap shiny foil insulation @ home depot does wonders..
