Was the difference between FIM and topping?

My friend suggested that I FIM one of my stretched AK-47 plants; it didn't get a lot of light during vegetation. I've looked up the definition of FIM, but I'm not really sure about the definition. Encloses a picture of the AK-47's. What do you think I should do it them. I have plenty of room in my flower room to grow tall plants, but I don't want something that the stems are going to get week and break off very easily either. My friend told me that when you FIM you take the top 2 to 3 inches or more of the plant off unlike topping where you just take the very top off. Is this true? If my friend is correct I could actually clone the top of the plant that I take off. I've got to say that I'm a not really a big fan of topping or trimming during growth at any stage, but I'm always willing for suggestions to increase yield. Thanks in advance for any input you guys and gals give me. IMG_0349.jpgThese plants are growing in happy frog soil, with the Fox farm nutrient schedule and are under 250 W of T fives. They were a little light starved when my vegetation room got overcrowded. In about a week they will be thrown under the double set of T fives which is about 485 W. I do have plenty of plants though and I can experiment with a couple; this is why my friend suggested this course of action. What do you guys think?

Fimming can create up to 4 new shoots from the cut site, altho its harder to do correctly. Topping only creates 2 new shoots.

Let me start by sayin ur plants look great man, and if you PM Bakatare666 on the subject or even follow his grow or links it'll show you what FIM'ing and LST'ing is...FIM = Fuck I missed...and was done accidentally, I guess..lol

Yes can you explain how much of the top of the plant to take off and how many nodes should it have before I do it?

I am very familiar with topping a plant but I heard your supposed to take off like 1/4 to 1/3 of the plant when doing FIM?

Thank you very much guys. I actually thought that was what topping was. I've been doing it for years,( when I top my plants). I'll work on my lexicon.

Hey it's kind of a confusing area. As far as my take on it with fimming you are releasing hopefully 4 minute axilary buds while barely nipping the apical shoot. While topping you probably release 2 by whacking off the whole top of the plant. Anyway study the first diagrams in that fimming dialog, it's come closest to explaining it well that I have seen.

Actually, I wanted to FIM, and after I was done and looked at it, said I FM my FIM!

I would go with topping though. Creates much more predictable results, and once you learn when and where to top, you can create pretty plants with low profiles and lots of bud. Good luck.
