Washington state seeks federal guidance on medical marijuana

In what the federal Government would call a cold day in hell as to when they would allow large scale cannabis commerce Washington State asks Uncle Sam for some rules :)

A proposal to rewrite Washington state's medical marijuana laws is in flux after federal prosecutors expressed concerns about its provisions legalizing dispensaries and farming. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday, Gov. Chris Gregoire asked for "clear guidance" about the Justice Department's position on state-licensed marijuana dispensaries.
Downtown Bellingham got its first medical marijuana storefront April 1, and there are other dispensaries operating in the county as well.

Gregoire became concerned about a potential federal crackdown after speaking with the U.S. attorneys for Eastern and Western Washington, Michael Ormsby and Jenny Durkan. The prosecutors were concerned that the proposed legislation would legalize commercial sales of marijuana, said state Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles, the bill's prime sponsor. Ormsby and Durkan could not be reached for comment.
The U.S. attorney for Northern California was threatening to prosecute operators of a proposed commercial marijuana farm in Oakland, even though the farm was licensed by the city of Oakland, Gregoire wrote in her letter to Holden.
Washington is considering a similar scheme under a bill that has passed both chambers of the Legislature. That bill would create state licenses for nonprofit or for-profit dispensaries, grow arms and cannabis food processors.
