RIU should give vet poster the ability to delete posts from users with less than 10 posts. It could only be used on bots, and maybe the deleted posts could get logged somewhere and mods could strip someones insta-delete power if they used it for evil.

At least the titles are obvious. I've seen other spam(?) that repeats part a phrase or sentence from one of the first posts in a thread. It is really weird. I've seen others that make an intro post and then reply someplace with some obviously canned response like, "That is very nice. You must continue and post your further experiences." I think they have links in sigs, but not all do. It is all very odd.

But then again, for all I know, you could all be Eliza.

I had suggested the same thing a while back even if it was just on a temporary basis. These spammers come and go, there haven't been any in a while but now they are back.

Uh....those spammers aren't posting actual movies...

It's a form of "social engineering", or "phishing".

The only problem with that is the spammers would just get 10 posts (or whatever the arbitrary number is) before they started spamming.

At the same time, you then give many people the ability to delete legitimate posts...

Well, you guys see only a few of the spam threads that are posted here. Over 90 percent of the spam does not show up to the members, they are caught by our spam filter, and we delete them before you see them. If you see 5 a day, there are 100 that you don't see.

Actually, after thinking about it, it's a pretty good idea.

The mods themselves would have a dedicated page where it listed every deleted post with all the related and relevant information. They could very easily see who deleted what, reverse it and take away that person's ability to delete posts if necessary like you mentioned. And since only people who have been here a while with rep could delete posts, it would be semi difficult to "farm" RIU accounts for the purpose of deleting other people's posts. Once the mods see someone abusing it they would be able to shut it down pretty quickly. Hmm...

Considering the epic trolling that happens on a daily basis I don't think it's such a good idea. Deleting posts would be a new form of troll fodder. No thanks.
