Water & how important it is!

I'm in the process of setting up a multi tub DWC setup. Each tub is going to be holding about 14 gallons of water, 6 plants per tub

Do you DWC guys make weekly trips to the grocery store and buy them out of distilled water? Or does everyone just use aquarium drops?

My home tap water sits at around 7.5, and PPM of 250-300ish. Are drops like http://www.aquariumguys.com/prime50ml17oz.html going to make my tap water good for my DWC setup?

I cant imagine everyone is going to the grocery store for shit tons of distilled water every week... or owns a $200ish water purification system!

What do you guys do?

...people that are serious about it buys a reverse osmosis filtering system. Some of your store bought distilled water has a ppm. Reverse osmosis filters knock the ppm to nearly zero.

Are there RO systems that are sub $200? I am finding tons of systems that can do 100 gallons a day... but I dont need anything close to that. Perhaps there are less expensive ones that I am just not finding because I am using the internets wrong?

Thanks for the advice, I might just have to bite the bullet and spend the cash after all :P

Now we're getting some where, go to the hydro store and buy a 1 gallon jug of ph down(yer gonna need it) 7.5 can be lowered no problem. The ppm at 250 - 300 is where mine is at the tap, these are your base minerals. USE THEM. Add nutes to the base. I use my own damn formula and it works for me.

Anyone ever die from drinking yer tap water?

Read up on these here forums pilgrim. Experiment. Thats part of the fun. Find the right strain, the right nutes, the right airflow, good lights and have fun. Keep notes on what works and what does not. It's how you LEARN to grow killer budz.

I bought a small whirlpool RO machine from Lowes, for like $130. It has a 2 gallon tank, that takes about 2 hours to fill up, but....it does work, and works consistantly....might want to look into that one. Or, you can even start to collect rain water.

I'd be embarrassed to admit how much time I spend reading up on growing currently. When I ask these questions... it's because I didn't see the answer in the past couple weeks of browsing the forum :P

i just priced a ro system from a plumbing supply by me. 50 gallons per day for 170.00 otd. right now i am going to kroger 3 times a week for distiled and it has a ph of 7.5-7.8, pain in the ass.

dude just use tap water if you dont want to spend money on a r/o system right now... get yourself a extra resivoir and let it sit on standby... let tap water sit without a lid on it for 12 hours so any chlorine can evaporate....Ph will just around for a couple days on you but then level out

The smaller system have RO membranes with lower rejection rates and less efficiency. Meaning that they produce water with more TDS remaining in the water and that they also create more waste water. The most efficient RO membarnes start at 75 gallons per day. What most people do is run aBout 25 gallon at a time into a 32 gallon rubbermaid trash can.

Control the turning on othe the RO filter with a valve at thee inlet side and the temporary turning off with a float valve attached to the inlet to the storage barrel. Once the float valve shuts the RO flow exit off then turn the inlet valve of, otherwise every time the water level drops just a little bit the RO filter will run again for just a very short time. Short run times through a RO Filter produce water out put with a higher TDS and with higher waste water generation than long runs.

Perhaps there are less expensive ones that I am just not finding because I am using the internets wrong?

Another place to get RO water is most large tropical fish stores. Even PetCo sells RO water. RO water is a better quality water than commercial distilled water. If you add a DI cartridge to a RO filter you can also get zero ppm water, otherwise with a Dow Filmtec membarne or comparablefigure on a 98 percent lowering of the inlet TDS.

I'm no expert, but I think both are going to be equally bad. Assuming you are using soil, the way that I found works the best to tell when the plants need water is to get familiar with the weight of the pot when the dirt is dry and in need of water. Once you know that weight (you can even use a scale if you need to), it's easy to tell when they are dry and need water.

I just stick mah finger in the dirt, if it's wet I don't bother picking the pot up. If it's dry, I pick it up & see how heavy it is.

Hey penor i dont want to speak for boomerbloomer by any means at all nor could i call my self an expert grower or even a novice grower, im still fresh into this but i think what he means by saying "Anyone ever die from drinking yer tap water?" is that your tap water isnt gonna kill your babies. Ive seen someone accidentally damn near lower the pH to zero, the plants STUNK of rotting eggs and layed down for what looked like for good, but 3 days later those babies were big and strong yet again. Like i said before, i definintely do NOT want to speak for boomerbloomer and i would tell you be cautious in playing around with stuff, but remember these plants are pretty damn hard to kill for good

What kinda kiity *rap is fatty fat, fat stuff?

I have several commercial RO fiters. Quite a bit more than most people would need. They however are very efficir ent as they run at 200 to 225 psi and have diverter valves so very little waste water is created. The RO filter membanes are the same as Dow FilmTec membranes but larger.
