watering help

so i have just germinated a seed and put it in a cup of durston multi purpose compost, white thing down and covered it with abit of compost
and now i have put them under 2 23w cfls for i am thinking 18/6 but not sure how much water to give it. it hasent sprouted yet.
i dont want to overwater it so not sure the compsot was quite damp to start off with.
but under the cfls its getting drier please help

stick your finger into the soil, if its a dry like a prude, make it wet and let it drain

so if it gets too dry should i make it all wet(soaking) or just moist because wont that damage the seed
