I first smoked at the end of the year in 8th grade. I smoked probably twice within the next years, but by 10th grade I was a proud stoner.
Fast forward 6 years.
2 weeks ago I purchased my first no name glass bong. It has two tree percs with 3 branches each, an ice catch, down stem with diffuser slits and an ash catcher. I instinctively put rice in my ash catcher, as with 3 water chambers no more water is needed for cooling and instead it needs filtering of tar and ash. don't really know how I knew to do this, I have been smoking for over 10 years and one time I saw it before. Well after smoking for a while I noticed i experience the same tar blocking capablilites as those you use a carbon filter, although likely not as well as they do.
Anyway, today for the first time I put water in the ash catch and after smoking my usual amount, well what an uncomfortable experience that was. Throat closing up and tight, coughing, hacking, and dang just why do my lungs feel so small.
Now I noticed with no dry filtration, I got a much different high, very broad in effects and body altering versus just the head high i usually seek and i get with the rice in.
I feel my single experience is proof enough that water filtration doesn't really filtrate anything at all. Instead it cools the smoke. I do not intend to ever smoke my piece without some kind of ash catch i expect my lungs will be hurting just as bad next time.
my question is, does any one else agree dry filtration is essential for the smoothest toke, and replicating th effects of a vaporizer without the expense. I am now beginning to research carbon and dedicate my time to finding a better dry filter for my piece.
If you havent tried it, I highly recommend it.
