That is a male.
If all of the balls are closed you can get it out without pollinating a female.
If the balls have opened it will release pollen.
This is a picture of open male flowers.
To be on the safe side, heavily mist the male flowers with water before you start handling the plant - that "kills" the pollen and does not allow it to dissipate.
