Yeah, take a break and get your head right. Nobody should be taking any mood altering substance if they're suffering with anxiety or obtrusive thoughts because it will make it worse, especially if you're attributing those feelings to the weed because then every time you smoke and get these feelings, the belief becomes more entrenched, like you're expecting it to happen every time you smoke so it does. Sticking with indica strains might help, and avoiding those crazy, competitively high thc numbers will definitely help, you want more of a mellow high that isn't going to make you think too much. Apparently sniffing pepper can help with anxiety when you're stoned, but I've never tried it, meant to work though.
