What are tents good for besides retaining light?

I want to move out of my tents and get bigger. Are tents neccessary if you have a room you can seal off?

The only reason I have a tent is because of space issues.. if you have the room to make a bigger grow space then go with it.. sometimes I wish my tent was four times the size!
