What causes this? Pics Included

So I was just wondering what causes this. As you can see the plant decided to split off and make a V, which in turn, caused the plant to get confused and grow bad. It won't grow much and seems to want 3x the amount of nutes.

So what caused this and should I just scrap it?

sometimes a branch will get more light then the rest of the plant and decide to grow a bit faster. no need to scrap it. i would actually do a bit of lst and make it bush even more. that will get you a few more main colas. just lst it at the Y and all the inner growth will shoot up and give you more tops.
