what do you do when you find out your kid is smoking??

well, it's not really my kid, my one sisters kid, but he may as well be mine as i am very close to him and have taken on a fatherly role with him as his biological father is not in his life at all...

my other sister came over today and showed me a pix of him i guess the dumb ass posted on facebook with what obviously looks like a joint in his hands... i'm kind of more pissed that my one sister saw it more than his smoking, as she's an asshole and loves to have that kind of ammo against my other sister and my nephew, but i'm still pissed over the whole thing honestly..
i kind of feel like a hypocrite and all, as i'm sure you can understand, but the kids only 14, and in the 8th grade atm.. kind of young imo, but i know i probably started using at his age as well.. it's just that our family has a very long history of addiction, i myself have 11 years clean off of heroin..

, so i really worry about him going down the same roads i have...

so i'm curious as to how any parents or caring family members here have handled similar situations in the past... any help would be greatly appreciated ...

IDK. I don't have kids just sell to a few high school kids.

I suppose I'd tell him that if you want to end up in trouble keep doin what you're doin otherwise smarten up.

yah, i tried teaching the kid how to use my roor, but he's a bit slow, lol.. i kid i kid...

My parents found out when I was the same age. They flipped shit then. But once I got older my dad had a serious talk to me about i expressing his opion (which is pro pot), telling me about how if I'm going to do it then do it at the safety of my house or close friends, none in the car, ect ect... And now, he gets me nugs when its super dry.

yah, i'd have much less of an issue if he were say 17 or so, but christ, he just seems so young to me.. the kid is huge for his age, like 6 2 and over 200 some pounds, so i guess it's kind of hard looking much older than your true age..
i know times are changing, and i guess i should be happy he's only smoking weed, but i'm not..

lol, yah, i know, how fucking stupid can you be.. i'm not sure if that's where the pix came from but about 99% sure... how dumb can he be, he knows my sister is on his friends list for christs sake..

I would try to get him not to smoke at all. Which unfortunately, will probably not work :/
Whatever you do, being too harsh will most likely not work, usually it even makes matters worse.

An old friend of mine had a different approach with his little sister when she was 15: he got some of the strongest stuff he could find and got her so high that she never wanted to smoke... for 15 years. It's been 6 years since she smoked the first joint after this, and she smokes once a week, tops. lol

first, tell him facebook is retarded and a waste of time.

second, what can you do besides give your advice and opinion?
you can't lock him in his room for the rest of his life because he was smoking weed.

i guess you could take everything away and ground him for a few months. but i never got grounded and if i did it was pretty much forgotten about the next day
guess it depends on how lenient his mom is. is she a single parent?

Thats the route Id take. If the kid is gonna smoke he's gonna smoke, nothing you can say will change that. Better to inform him how you do not condone it by any means, especially his young age and the health concerns, but if he is gonna be doing it, be smart about it and not a dumbass. If he at least knows you are understanding of it, its more likely he will talk to you about other drugs he hears about...rather than just jumping into them, as he knows you are somebody he can trust to talk to about it.

...or get a police officer friend to "arrest" him in regards to his facebook posts...that'll scare the fucker into never smoking again...lol

i dont do facebook but my mom does and shes always telling me about the crazy shit that gets posted there..

i really didn't even notice it at first till my sister pointed it out to me.. it wasn't super obvious, but i guess obvious enough as my 17 year old nephew saw it and showed it to my other sister..

I started smoking when I was 12. My mom caught me and she grounded me. Shortly after that she realized I wouldn't stop and gave in , she said , "I would rather have you smoke a joint than drink alcohol." The kid is going to do what he wants but I believe if your a good role model in his life and he looks up to you, you could convince him that smoking is not what you want to do.
