What are t-5 lights & what are t-12 lights?

I have 48" fluorescent tubes in my brow cabinet. What would they be called?

Thanks

T5 and t12 are floro bulbs. The light you got are either t 12 shop lights or t8s.Where did you get it from? They usually have a description where they sell them at.

There should be numbers printed on the bulb identifying it as a certain type. Some times the codes are weird and I have to google them though.

Best of luck !

t5s are skinny tubes, t8s are a bit fatter, and t12 are the fattest common use ones. the skinnier the tube the more efficiant the light is, varying by brand of course. t5s are the best choice for growing if you're using floro tubes. they are the most efficiant and kick out the most intense light.

I may have t-8s. I noticed when I bought the bulbs that there was skinnier ones that the 1" wide ones that were cheaper. I bought the twin back & they were smaller around that the singles.

Will have to check. Would I get a better result (enough to spend the money) buying t-5 bulbs? I assume they can go in these same fixtures?

That would be less money than buying the 400 watt HPS.

Opinions?

Fluorescent bulbs, for the most part, have to be matched up with the proper socket and ballast. Yes, fluorescent lights require ballasts too. There are some, like CFL's that either have a small ballast built in or use a small ballast inside the fixture but you will not be able to use t-5's with a t-8 fixture. I use t-12 shoplights for rooting clones. Some use t-5's for their clones but I honestly think it's a waste. t-5's would be good for vegging a small grow. t-5's put out the most lumens per watt (meaning they are the most efficient). Some people use t-5's for the whole grow, which you could do, but don't expect monster colas. Best of luck and happy growing. :weed:
