what is an acceptable temp range for nutrient solution?

Hi all,

I've just set up a flower room for a bucket DWC grow, 5 buckets in total, all connected to a reservoir for easy maintenance. I bought several aquarium heaters, but they're too long to fit into my 3.5 gallon buckets:roll:, so I'm wondering if I can get by without heating the nutrient solution in the buckets (the reservoir will be heated, at least). I have air temps around 80 degrees and am 'testing' the system now without any plants for a day or two. Not sure what the water temp will eventually level out to, but right now it's around 57 degrees, seems a little cool, but it is slowly coming up, I think. I believe I've read that 65 is a good temp, but want to check to see what the acceptable range is. What is too hot, and what is too cold? Any help is appreciated.

It has more to do with oxygen levels. Above 72F water does not hold enough oxygen to support healthy plants, between 55-70F is the best range for water to be in. I personally maintain my water temps at 60F even when air temps are at 80+F. You will have to experiment a little bit as each strain has its own particular needs and some plants my not need as much oxygen as others.

60-65 is a good temp for the water anything lower then 60 I wouldn't go. Personally I would heat the nutrient solution. If the pad it to big just exchange it for a smaller one look at the lizard heaters with a thermostat their small and range in sizes!

According to leading growers, including a couple universities that study Hydroponics 58 F is the desired temp for maximum oxygen retention. Your milage may vary with prevailing barometric pressures yadda yadda. Essentially everyone here is right.
