what is the cost

hi im new to the whole growing culture but i have a few questions and i was wondering if i can be provided with some realistic answer

as an example
40 plants in a 4 by 10 area
under 3 600w hps with closed reflectors
with a fan attched to each of the lights and carbon filter
no hydroponics ( good old fashion self watering no chemicals i love organic)

what would a electrical bill run at monthly if all other utilities in house are unplugged

600w x 12 hrs/day = 7.2 kwh per day. Thats each 600w light. lets round up to 7.5 since ballast draw a little more power than that.
7.5 kwh x 3 lights = 22.5 kwh per day for lighting.

your fan is probably around 1 or 1.2 amps. call it 150w for ease of math.
150w x 20 hrs a day = 3 kwh per day.

thats roughly 25 kwh per day for fans and lights.
This assumes your lights are only on 12 hrs a day.
now match that with price per kwh on your electricity bill.

FWIW, average price for electricity is probably about 12 cents per KwH in the USA right now, but it will vary tremendously based on geographic location.

If you need to know your rate, take a look at your electric bill.

that wouldnt be that much with that average its about 90 a month thats how much mine is normal with out a grow i know people who pay up to 140 a month for electricity in an apartment
