What kind of lighting do I need for an individual plant? (n00b)

Hi all,

I'm gonna grow a plant using a seed I got in some bud. I found here http://www.weedfarmer.com/cannabis/lightguide_guide.php that 100w should be sufficient. However that's a HID bulb, which I can't seem to find unless it's for a car?? So it says incandescent bulbs are a cheap alternative to HID's. Will the average 100w from B&Q do the trick?

Also this might sound really stupid but there's no light fitting in my cupboard space. I'm sure I remember one that can be plugged into the mains?

Best advice you can get is. Stop right there go to stickies and start Reading. It's easy to grow but there are some basics you need to learn.

lol no light socket in your cupboard eh? I wonder why. My first indoor grow, I dismantled like 6 lamps, so it was just the cord and socket and hung them up the by the cord. Plugged the 6 cords into a power bar. I bought cfls. (compact florescent lights). Mainly because that was the easiest thing to get, in every store, and their really cheap.

P.s, might wanna start more then one seed, theres a 50/50 chance that seed will end up male, males produce pollen and no bud.

U can get a 150 hps online or u can try lowes or home depot for a 70 watt hps.. Yes u would want to start more than 1 seed because unless its fem it can go 1 of 3 ways male ,female an or hermie good luck

I Say Go To Walmart Get 4 Of The 10$ Flourescents And The Daylight Bulbs Like 3$ Ea Use Those For Veg Then Get A 150w Hps I Grow With The Same Setup.

You need to read read read. You are really way to far behind to already ask questions, however I will give you a quick run down..

1. You can NOT use incandescent, forget about it!
2. You CAN use CFLs. 6500k for Vegetative state and 2700K for Flowering. 3:1 or 4:1 ratio works for both stages well.
3. You CAN use Metal Halide (MH)
4. You CAN use High Pressure Sodium (HPS)

You should have a minimum of 100 watts per plant, with 50 watts per plant after that. That's real watts, not equivalent watts if buying CFLs

Why the sarcasm? Where I live it's quite odd to have a large cupboard and no light. You think I meant my kitchen plates cupboard? Anyway thanks for the reminder re. plant sex, I'll wait for a few more seeds and read more.

def read more. theres a lot to iron out before you get seeds in soil or whatever medium you want. trust me it SUCKS to get started and then to have to struggle to fix things after the fact. cfls definitely work really well. other ways REALLY work better, but i mean check out the grow in my sig, you can do a lot with just cfls. you just need a lot of them. i have over 400 watts of cfl for my veg cab. 9 plants. hoping for 3 females...
