i have a wardrobe with 6 plants in, 2 roadrunners a og kush a blue widow a blue hashplant a sour cream, all the photoperiods are in veg, i have been using ona gel to get rid of smell and the only place u can smell is in my flat, which im fine with, however when the other plants are flowering i would imagine they will stink considerably more, i was thinking of buying a 4 ince filter, will it be enough? how loud will it be? also, there is a gap between the 2 doors which i just tape up however i am studying and blazing so i sometimes forget, i was thinking of just taping big black bin bags across and just lifting them when i need to see the plants, will that work? thanks for any responses

in order for a fan to work efficiently you must work out your volume of your growing area for instance.

W x H x L = Volume

1m x 1m x 2m = 2m/3

2m/3 x 60mins = 120m3/h this is your volume of air you need to exhaust per hour!

Now a carbon filter will reduce an inline fans efficiency by 20% so to combat this we need to +20% on to 120m3/h

120m3/h +20% = 144m3/h

So in order to exhaust your grow enough and clean the air you should purchase an inline fan and filter with a m3/h of 144m3/h or as near to this as you can.

if you only use something like bin bags as screens then the negative pressure might pull them into the fan.

you should look to either build a door structure or secure your lining.

another tip is to try to get your exhausted air far away from your grow.

ur a genius, when i am not so stoned i will reread that and try to understand it lol, the bin bags will be tapped with strong ass gaffa tape lol, i dont want to get an inline just a nice lil carbon filter to stop the neighbors wondering why my flat smells like a dead skunk, also, if i leave my lights on 12/12 and add a plant every week or so i should have a consistent harvest, albeit not a big one however a stable yet decent amount of weed to get by, also, i will be getting cuttings right before xmas so ive alredy got a big yield coming soon lol but anyways, will a 4 inch filter do, its not a huge wardrobe and im only growing with 170 watts so im not exactly gonna have monster plants, but most importantly, sound, i cant be trying to sleep next to a jet engine lol how loud will it be?

a carbon filter on its own wont do shit!

air must flow through the filter in order to be cleaned, an inline fan is essential to running a filter .

what you gonna do blow air through it yourself??? lol.

inline fans that small barely make any more noise thsn an oscilating fan once filter and ducting is attached.

If you are going to use a carbon filter you need an inline centrifugal fan. Not a "duct booster' or something, but a true fan like Can-Fan or something similar. Those fans are pretty loud on full speed, so you will want some sort of speed controller if you are going to sleep by it. Also make sure your ducting is air tight - one small leak equals a big stink. I am running a 6 inch filter and fan in my 2' by 3' cabinet and last run my whole house and front yard was reeking.

I sleep next to my cab and am running 400 watts and my fan. The way I manage the sound is with my variable speed temperature controlled fan speed controller. I set it for my max temps day and night, and it throttles the fan from 0 - 100% speed depending on the temp. Now that it is winter my intake temp is around 73 degrees and my fan barely runs. During the summer intake temps got up to 83 degrees and the fan would run full speed during the day. I manage to get good sleep next to my cab by running off at midnight on at 6 am for veg, and off at 10 pm and on at 10 am for flower.

Oh yeah, here is a link talking about my fan speed controller if you are interested:

Its easier than Jondamon is making it out to be. Hes totally correct though, but I will put it into the screwed up imperial system units we use here in the states,so its easier for you to understand being from the USA and all.

You want the volume of air in your space to be filtered at least once per minute. Fans have CFM ratings or Cubic Feet per minute. Get the correct fan that will have a minimum number equal to a or greater than the volume of your grow space. Like sparka said, use a specialty can fan made for ducting use. http://botanical.com/hydro/air/canfan.html

Your Wardrobe is probably around 7 feet tall, 3 feet deep and 4 feet wide or so. 7X3X4=84 Cubic feet of volume. Your fan needs to be rated at 84cfm or more, then hook to appropriate size carbon filter and it should be good to go. http://www.canfilters.com/

im buyin a premade kit, 4 inch filter + ducting + extractor fan + clips, the fan has a half and full speed switch to which ill be puttin on half, i dont mind some smell, i still have lots and lots of ona gel but that alone wont do the trick, i might get 1a them fan speed controlers, all i wanna know is, will it be enough for 4 medium sized plants and be bareable to sleep in the same room(those fucking basterd moving people had to put it there didnt they)

ukgrower2110 is in USA?

i can work in CFM's too.

i just figured ukgrower2110 was in the UK where its m3/h .

i dont know how many people i have to say this to but its not the amount of plants that determine your fan/filter but the size of your room.

what CFM's or m3/h are your fan and filter rated ?

biggest you can afford with an inline fan to match... must be at least rated to the size of your room and speed of your fan... do the math, you'll not regret it...

Your right, M3 would be the way to go, I didn't realize the UKgrower meant Grows in the UK, but now that you mention it your dead on correct.

How big is your space? how many CFM is the fan? need to know those things to tell you if its good enough.

from the description of this combo it will exhaust and clean your air in a 2m3 space efficiently .

The trouble now is that you still haven't posted your dimensions of your grow area.

as long as your grow is less than 1m x 1m x 2m then this combo above will work.

but without the actual dimensions we cannot tell you for sure.
