What to look for when deficient plants get better?

Hi again,

So I recently posted and you guys were quick to help, I’ve been doing a bunch more research and I feel like I’m on the right track, great to have some more opinions from the experienced growers out there, is my first time...

Made some errors, happens.. was feeding only 0.5ec at day 17 which is wayyy low now I realise.. I’ve been progressively bringing my ec up 0.2 every couple days as advised and I’ve just fed my first 1.1 ec feed (This was my target for now). Plants seem to be liking it and there still growing which is the main thing! I’ve only just started checking run off ec compared to inflow, and done a Florakleen flush (20% runoff) on one plant as it’s been reading 0.4/0.5 ec over inflow last few days, uped my Fertigation to twice a day splitting my feeds into to two rather than one big one to try and get the ec more on point. One was locked out I think, back left in photos. Pictures under mh lighting to emphasise colours, can get normal ones if needed.

Plants seem to be getting colour back, should I be paying attention to new growth rather than old, and will current leaves keep improving symptoms? Should I expect them to fill out nice and green again? Plenty of info on fixing but can’t struggling to find examples of recovery, have no idea what to expect tbh.

fast buds galato auto - day 19 / day 22
coco perlite 70/30 mix
16L fabric pots

watering twice a day 700ml ish a feed - 10/20% run off each plant

run off ec around 0.2/0.3 over inflow on two I didn’t mention earlier

nutes;
RO water - feed EC 1.1 (from today) Ph 5.8
Cal mag 0.8ml/l
Canna coco a/b 1.5ml/l (was only 0.4ml6 days ago or so)
Cannazym 0.8/l
Rhizotonic 1ml/l

400w Mh 14 inch from tops, air cooled hood
Temps lights on at tops 24-25c (tent about 22-23c)
Temps lights off 20-21c
Humidity 60-65%
good airflow with breeze rustling leaves (very light barely moving)

opinions welcome and much appreciated

Thanks VT

More info needed

Just kidding nice post

I wait until I think I have the problem figured out then I remove super damaged leaves and watch the rest.

Heads up any grow I’ve switched from MH to HPS I’ve had issues with light strength. Keep that HPS a little high when you make that switch. I’m running mine 28-30”.

should I be paying attention to new growth rather than old, and will current leaves keep improving symptoms?

Leaves with chlorosis (dead, dried, brown portions) will never recover, but you should keep them until you've sorted the problem as they can indicate if the problem is getting worse and spreading.

It is important to watch both new growth while continuing to monitor old leaves as well. Nutrients are used in the plant differently, and different deficiencies show up in different areas of the plant.

For example, Nitrogen being a mobile nutrient, problems will show up at the oldest growth(bottom of plant). Iron for example is an immobile nutrient, and its deficiency shows at new growth (top of plant).

Nice thanks again people, ima keep my ec at 1.1 for now and keep an eye on new growth, thanks for all the info and will be switching to hps when I see signs of flowering, will back off the lighting like you said when I switch. I caught on a bit late, wish I posted here sooner, a lot of pale green new growth hard to see in photos but think they’ll pick up now I have a better understanding of ec. Think my 2nd grow will go much smoother, I always end up learning from mistakes lol

Following up on my first posts, a quick thanks for the help @spek9 @Boatguy @Wattzzup @TheSadBadGrower. This one looking the best right now, we’re on the uphill finally by looks of it, long way to go. Hopefully can keep on top of things for rest of the grow :) same plant 5 days difference!

yeah still battling it but like you say getting there, really underfed them so hopefully by next week we’re looking even better. I’m just looking at the small steps for now, as long as they don’t die on me I’ll be happy lol
