What's your process for choosing from multiple popped seeds?

So for example, you have a 6 pot DWC. You've popped 10 seeds and you want the 6 best. What do you look for when choosing from multiple popped seeds?

Grow them all out as long as you can and see which seem the strongest and healthiest.

Biggest thing IMHO is to track the clones you cut so that once you have a harvest done, you can preserve whichever plant(s) yielded best,

Good replies.
I do clone but don't plant them. Usually give them away and plant outside, as I'm still looking for strains that blow me away. It's just good practice :)

The reason I ask is I chose what looked to be the 6 biggest and strongest last time and got 2 runts. I'm now questioning if I missed something to look for.

Massive colas on them but very short in comparison to the others. Harvest in 3 weeks so the final weights will tell but it would be nice to get 6 really monsterous plants from choosing correctly at first.

I have ready to pop for the next grow-

pay attention to a few things.. you internode growth and how equal they are.. obviously veg speed is semi important... look for any defects.. three leaves curled leaves and genetics issues you don;t want... make sure you choose one that has good support.. but if they are females i wouldn't pull anything till you flower.. i generally do the same thing start 10+ 8 make it to veg... i may weed out some bad growers or weak growers.. so say i have 6 at this point i mark the six.. clone all six.. keep them in veg till your sure you have viable clones.. throw the plants to flower and see whats the best all around.. keep that ones clone as a mother....
i personally clone.. then re-veg the clones... and flower the clones so i keep the original genetics as my mom.. but that requires time.. i normally take 6 months+ to choose my moms..

if they are regular seeds keep them in veg till the sex shows... chop the males and proceed with the cloning of the females.

Its hard to say. Ive had plants that take off while growing, produce less than other plants that grew slower. just gotta grow them and clone the best once you see how the harvest is.

yep agree totally till flower is done i wouldn't pull anything unless theres clear growth or genetics issues...

I would all ways keep my eye on the first to pop, same with clones the first to root are normally the ones that i go with, this is what i have done since i very first started and it has not let me down yet,i think of it has the first to pop or root are the more likely to produce more.

But seeds are a little different,i would all ways let them all grow for a few week dep on the room you have, by this time you will see what ones are the front runners, keep these and ditch the others or still run them but have the better ones in the best spots in the room. The first to pop are the ones that i would clone of i have tested countless ways with seeds and the first to pop are near all ways the first to root if you clone them.

But you may also get a few different traits in the seeds keep the ones that are better for your room,eg some may be taller, some may be more bushy its near all ways the smaller bushy plants that i keep i like plants that i know i can get multipul tops of during flowering.but that means a bit of work topping,my plants are topped at least 4/6 times

Now that's a great answer!!!! Thank you very much.
I only buy feminised seeds. I will try and get cuttings from all the next lot and re-veg the clones.

no offense but keeping plants that work for your room.. or that you can keep stature would limit you from the possibility of actually getting the proper phenos your looking for in flower.. if i kept genetics based on vegetative growth i couldn't image how poor my genetics could be .. i mean unless theres clear growth issues.. like he said he has two RUNTS.. chances are they won't be keepers, but maybe that pheno of that strain will stretch 2 ft in flower.. when the others don't stretch.. it comes to seeing the flowers before any choice is made or you could be tossing the one seed that carries the genetics you want just because it grows too fast or something silly like that in veg.. not worth it IMOP

Take good notes from start to finish, repeat a second cycle with notes. Compare and cut the undesirables. Many times I have been impressed with plants on the second flower cycle. I don't reveg though, as it adds stress to the plant and in my mind would be that much closer to turning hermi later on. Also with the time and space it takes to reveg, I can be working other seeds. Just take plenty of clones before flower and know that you are commited to a following round of plants. I have been trying for over a year with seeds, to find the keeper. Looking for yield, potency, and flavor. Maybe just maybe I have found 1 on this last round. I start about 30 seeds each time, unless I have potential keepers in the current clones.

yep.. i can't name how may times i have tossed whole genetics batches because they just weren't good .. it unfortunate but it happens a lot.. i do the same i generally start 20 regulars.. or 10 females.. maybe i get one good mom .. theres those odd chances where you get more or maybe you start 3 strains and get three keeper moms.. then the next three seed batches you get all crap genetics.. stuff veries.. id have to say barneys farm.. green house and SOME DNA stuff are probably the most stable and reliable in breeding.
