Where do "regs" come from?

I only smoke dank sinsimella where the guy I got it from gets it from the guy who grows it, but recently I got to wondering where shwag comes from. You know, the stuff you get a quarter of for $25 and you typically see in poorer areas of town.

I'm talking about the brownish-green, compressed, oily weed that's full of seeds, the kind where the buds are all smushed and don't really smell like marijuana but more like hay or even chemicals like ammonia.

This stuff has to be grown somewhere and it must be in great amounts. Is "regs" bud usually grown domestically in the United States or does it come from elsewhere? Have they ever busted a large "regs" plantation?

Approximately how many hands is this stuff exchanged through before it gets to the end user?

I always hear it called Mexican brickweed, which makes me think it's coming from Mexico in large bricks. Now that I know that good weed shouldn't have seeds, I can't imagine how any grower would put that kind of weed out there, but I guess it's all about quantity, not quality. I imagine we're talking fields, and mountainsides, and large crops where they can't get all the males out.

It's the wal-mart weed- weed in which the only thing that is lower than its price is its quality. The strain that is used may be a pretty good strain if growing correctly, but like rambler said it is grown in bulk, and the presence of males doesn't bother them, in fact it ensures next year's crop. It is grown from seeds that aren't feminized and the crop it treated like many other crops- treating the while crop as one unit and not being too concerned with the individual plant. It is bricked up and the scent is contained to try to avoid detection by drug dogs. They will sprinkle coffee grounds, use laundry sheets, and many other untold things to get it across the border. Kinda interesting process, but to be honest it is about as interesting as toilet paper production; oddly enough both products end up just as shitty.

Well, if there wasn't a market for it....

What do you think goes in the majority of blunts in the city?

Oh yeah, there is a huge market for it, but low cost may not always mean a better value. I've bought plenty of regs, but if I have the cash for it, ill get some good mids of hydro. Unfortunately, if I want some really good weed, I have to grow it, and thats why I'm here. One day I will figure out a way to cross marijuana with kudzu, and I won't have to wait 3 months to get something that will cross my eyes.

I've taken those "schwag" seeds and nurtured it into something respectable, it's a great way to learn some basic grow techniques. Remember handling, packing and shipping large quantities over large areas requires methods that aren't friendly to trichomes. As well as large crops left to the outdoors with minimal care lends themselves to reproduce. A lack of weeding your weed so to speak. When we grow our own it's a much more personalized, dialed in experience :weed:

poor people aren't growing pot with seeds for money, the poor people are moving the schwag as mules.

imo shwag only thrives because of what goes on in the inner city. people who are on hard drugs or really poor get it because it's "good enough" and frankly many of them don't know any better. i can't tell you how many idiots i've talked to in bars/clubs who brag that they smoke so much weed and their tolerance is sick and blah balh blah, only to find out they stuff fat blunts full of garbage i wouldn't even touch in high school. it's beyond them that i smoke a gram and get higher then they do after 3 blunts. the sick irony is if they would quit trying to act like musicians whom they've never met, put down the blunt and pick up the bowl, they could actually see what it means to get stoned and for almost the same price. i like me a nice frosty sam adams. these people would have you believe that a can of steel reserve is "good enough". good ol' supply and demand. these people don't ask for it, so it's not around them. the commercial shwag farmers have no incentive to grow anything better because that crap is easy to move.
