why are work days eight hrs long minimum?

So here I am @ work enjoying the site when I was wondering why are work days 8 hrs long? I mean who came up with the idea of us humans having to work for minimum 8 hrs a day? Not the I'm complaining ah what the fuck am I talking about I am complaining but not much. How long have we humans have had the 8hrs shifts for? I know before they where longer and tougher but that was because technology was not advanced at all. Anyone has any inputs on this?

That's right now I remember.......... but still 8hrs cmon henry........ if people would work 5hrs per shift in a way more people would be able to work but less pay. Who knows maybe the economy wouldn't be as bad....

I work 8 - 5 Monday - Friday and honestly... I would work more if I could. With the way that the economy is, working is the only thing that keeps me sane...

in some countries they complain about 32 hour work weeks. americans can be lazy as fuck until it comes to making the cashola. my beef with an 8 hour work day is when you only get a half hour lunch. that is just insufficient for the stress of some jobs. i'm one of those people who would prefer a 10 hour day 4 times a week just for the extra day off.

I hear you guys I did too worked @ places for over 40hrs per week...... sometimes working ten hrs shifts is good only because you have three days off....... thank the lord my job is extremely easy but it can get really boring @ times........ I wish everybody had a job where there wouldn't be no one in the unemployment lines or in the streets for that matter..... impretty sure if the government would put some deep thoughts into this they would be able to find a solution where everyone had a paycheck coming there way from work...... that's my real thing about 8 hrs work.....

I'm a Network Administrator and my Boss lives 800 miles away from me and I only talk to him a couple times a week, so I'm pretty much my own boss. I usually take an hour or maybe more for lunch...partially because half the time I'm still kind of working remotely. But I love my job and the people I work with are very nice and I actually enjoy going to work.

spoken like a true salary worker. i would love that. my last job i had to punch in and out for lunch and sometimes i would literally still be chewing when i got back to my desk to answer the phone. no getting around it because i had to be logged in and "working" or they could tell. that to me is total bullshit unless there is a kitchen or something that serves food right in the building, which there wasn't. they could literally account for what i was doing EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY, and they could back it up with electronic proof. "excuse me, employee number 4595867, it seems that you used 7 minutes last week on bathroom breaks. do you need some time off?" i shit you not.

I had a tough job in the 90s.....if you watch PORN are get mags of NUDES you have seen my work............Im the guy with the bottle of water and the spritzer on the end.....my job was to mist the pussy to make it look wet............sometimes it took me 8 or 9 trys.....had to wipe it dry each time............to get it right...........................................


if you believe this I have some land in the artic I want to sell for farming.

I wish I had 8 hour days.

My average day working in the oil patch is 13-15 hours, usually 7 days a week for a month at time. Then you get a few days off and go again. Longest straight shift I ever had was 43 hours.

Been nice to have a break because of hernia surgery.

damn devil those are wicked hrs bro. i used to work the weekend straight and would only get about 16hrs rest. the pay was really good due to overtime but when i would get a day off i would be extremely tired that i would mainly spend it resting and smoking...........

Same here i work underground in the coal mines 12 hour shifts 6 days a week

Worth it when I get my check, but I am getting to the point where I just want an 8 hr. a day job, and get my "hobby" up and running again. Hard to grow dope with these hours.

i hear you on that one........ ive managed to get my hrs to the point where i spend about two AT THE MOST WITH MINES. i think my next one ill just have her under light hrs during night time and in the morning shell be sleeping......

and as far as checks go its good for a while but then the hrs really start getting to you, thats why now i have an easy job (business property management. plazas) that really requires almost no physical labor just put up with peoples bullshit every now and then........
