why would we want to stress our plants buy ripping a limb off when we could train our plants so that every branch gets the same light and becomes a cola.????
why stress with a top when you can train?

yeah but is it beneficial to the plant. im growing to smoke. so im looking for nice thick nugs. i want to get as much as i can obviously. does topping add to harvest?

Yes it can be beneficial on some strains. Think of it like adding 2-6 more colas depending on strain. It does stress the plant but in the end it turns out gorgeous. Also know that some strains do not respond well to topping and can stunt it's growth. So what I like to do is top one of my plants of a new strain I get and see how it reacts. Then I make a little notebook of which responded well and which didn't. This way I know what strains I can top in the future if I decide to grow them out again.

no you just get more smaller buds that will mature faster than one main cola
same as bending over it just starts growing more tops with out the wait

I think you have topping mixed with something else sir. Topping is when you cut the new shoot growing between top most new fan leaves. It stresses your plant slightly but 1 cola turns into 2. Then you can top those shoots and get 4 colas. It usually isn't recommended to top a plant more then 2 or 3 times. Though some plants do respond well to 4-5 times and produce monster colas. All strains vary.

Yes topping DOES add to harvest. How does having more then one main cola NOT add to harvest? You guys should lurk on these more. Plenty of topics on topping. Pun intended.
Also let me clarify. Topping does NOT work with all strains, so take that into account and ask here before topping if you don't already know the outcome. It can affect your yield in a negative way. By no means is it a guarantee that your plants will put out a massive amount of buds.

No, he's pretty correct. When you top a plant, the bottom branches will catch up to the top. Forms a much better canopy. And one cut doesn't mean it just produces two colas.. You can get a cola per shoot if they have adequate light each.

looking at your plants....and no knocking on ya by any means, but your node spacing looks almost 3 -4 inches. if you could tighten those up would you still need to lst?

couldnt i just train the plants so that they grow sideways and all the branches becomes cola since they all get the same light. the pic im putting up is of a topped plant and a trained plant. they did not come out as well as i hope they would because all i ha at the time was a 2 tube 4ft floro. i have since added 3 100 wat hps lamps. will this help fill in the branches .

I agree 100%. I don't prune anymore, I simply tie down plants and does alot more for them by not removing healthy growth(and a future bud site) and not slowing the plants down.

Have you ever topped a plant? It's not hard to grasp this concept. When you cut the main growth shoot, it takes take for it to start growing again. In that time the other, lower branches will have had a few days growth. They should be close, if not at the top where you made your cut. The plant will now form a more V like shape.

hahaha thats pissa, but no they are one parking lot wall light 100 watt hps and the street light looking rounded one is called a space light , you see them over wlkways. that also is a 100 watt hps lamp . i wired them to add to the floro because i wanted thicker fuller buds. ten years ago i remember growing in my fams house and i had in a 5 by 5 foot area 2 400 watt mh and 2 250 hps and from what i remember it was a discusting difference with the four plants i had going there. but it was such a heat issue. my mother came to the top step one day and was like why the fuck are my stairs hot to the touch. and then she waited till i had xmass trees in one month flower and chopped em close to the dirt and threw em away. i was , well i wanted to cry. so i grew outside for ten years and then bought my own house and dont want to make money i just want to have free smoke now that in boston its only a 100 dollar fine to get caught with under an ounce. ya know. not interested in selling. i do it because i really love the scientifical part of it. i own a pharmacy and as soon as they make it legal medically im using every conect i have here to be able to grow for our cancer custies.
