Hey all, starting my first grow with 2 lowryders. Just wondering if a 130W CFL light will heat up in the cupboard and potentially start a fire. Really dont want to set the house on fire!! Any help is much appreciated. Thanks :)

CFL's don't get very hot so as long as they arent touching anything and have a couple of inches in between them and the cupboard you should be fine but just in case keep water and or a fire extinguisher handy

You should be fine bro. I have four 25watt CFLs in my small cab. Temps only stay controlled with the 120mm pc fans i have. Temps stay between 75-85 f. Depending On the temp of my room because my heater gets very high at times. You can check out my setup in my signature if you'd like. Hope this helps, happy growing! :bigjoint:

CFLs generally run pretty cool.

Put it this way: If you can put your hand comfortably right on the reflector or right next to (or even touching) the light, its not going to be hot enough to start a fire.

Fires are usually started if there is either a short circuit (eg water gets into the electrical system causing sparks), or if you are drawing too much power through a faulty circuit breaker/fuse system, causing it to overheat. So long as its wired correctly, 100 watts of CFL shouldn't be any more likely to cause a fire than a conventional 100 watt light bulb.
