will 16/8 light show me sex earlier?

I want to weed out the males as sooon as possible and start more seeds if most of these arnt female. I want it to show sex but not go into flowering.

Yes, it will. You can even run 24 hours of light and see sex. Preflowers will occur under any light cycle if it is vegged long enough.

What type of light cycle are you currently running?

Plants from seed can show sex during veg, usually about 6 weeks, when they are Mature. Clones are different.
