Will RIU be closing?

To my understanding congress passed a bill called HR 1865 "FOSTA". Which will allow third party websites to be prosecuted federally for individuals who are using the websites to knowingly break laws/regulations.

For instance, Craigslist took down their "personals" section because of escort ads. Say what!??

So...

Congress is basically saying that they are misusing the website to knowingly engage in criminal activity.

So if I have a 50 light grow op in an illegal state and come here for advice on how to grow my marijuana, the site is engaging in my
criminal activity, right?

It's up for debate.

I'll be the first to say I love RIU and would hate to see it go. But if Craigslist is closing their personal ads section that says something.

Just a thought....

FOSTA is short for Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act. RIU will be fine until FOMDA (Fight Online Marijuana Discussion Act) is passed, probably soon.

RIU closes everyday, roughly 10:30 pm until 5:00am. If you see activity during those hours it's due to various time zones

meh, outside of the occasional cry of "blow me", there really isn't any sex trafficing on this site.

The Senate passed the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA) 97-2. The bill, which is very similar to a bill already passed in the House called the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA), aims to fight sex trafficking by making a website's owner legally liable if any user promotes or facilitates sex trafficking on their site.

If it is limited to sex trafficing, it won't have any effect.
