Hey, I used to have an aquarium tank, and i had these lights that i was using. will they work to grow marijuana plants? They are CFL'S right? so they should be able to help grow a plant right? I'm not 100% sure. They are two 25w bulbs. Will they work? Take a look at the pictures and let me know please. Oh, and i'm not sure why one bulb is pink and the other white. Do you know why? It used to glow white at one point.

A 600 watt HPS / MH kit is like $230 with shipping.

Buy that.

Really, the light is the most important thing. If you don't have at least $300, I would just try and save up. $220 on a light, $10 for a PH test kit, $10 for dynagro grow and $10 for dynagro bloom is about as cheap as you can go and just not have it suck. For an extra $30, you can get buckets and peat moss, but even dirt from outside is better than not having a good light.

Ok firstly those are regular fluorescent tubes. CFLS are small screw in bulbs the little 'twisty things' LOL! Anyway Yes plants can grow under fluoro tubes. I have 2 right now that have been vegging about 7 weeks under 2 40w 4 foot tubes. And they are doing fine. BUT, that being said they are completely maxed out now as far as that light can take them. I will be moving them to my tent in 2 days after I have my first 2012 harvest! Then they will have 250w HID and 280w of cfl as well.

A successful grow CAN be done without HID light (MH and HPS). There are many journals here that prove that. You don't have to invest a lot of $ in expensive lighting to grow good cannabis. But to grow great cannabis takes more light, just the law of nature.

If you would care too see what 2 regular tubes can do click the journal link in my signature. Best of Luck!!

I remember a kid coming in here and saying he found a pot seed and put it in a paper cup and kept it under his bed. Every night he shined a flashlight on it for awhile (under the covers perhaps?). He wanted to know how much bud he would get and when. We told him a pound in about 2 weeks.

They will work just fine for starting your seeds in party cups or something like that which can be transplanted to bigger pots under real lights though.
