Willie Nelson escapes major drug charges again

I happen to believe the day Willie goes to prison is the day I fight to get him out.
First we had Cheech and Chong and even Hank Williams Jr but if ever there was a man we all identify with from Farm Aid to Smoking with Willie again it is Willie Nelson.
My hat is off and see the bottom of this article for the video.

Willie Nelson escapes major drug charges again

An interesting column by Joe Nick Patoski that appeared in The Texas Tribune this week discusses the many arrests of Willie Nelson for marijuana possession, and how he has generally been allowed to go on his way without much for punishment. Willie Nelson is co-chairman of the advisory board of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws and every time he is arrested, he faces the charges and brings publicity to his marijuana-legalization cause.
Nelson was arrested last November when Border Patrol agents found 6 ounces of marijuana in his tour bus at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint. Later, that amount was downgraded to less than 3 ounces and Nelson was charged with a misdemeanor. The Hudspeth County attorney had said that Nelson could dispense with the charges by singing "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" in the courtroom, but he was only joking. Nelson will be allowed to plead guilty through the mail as well as pay a small fine and court fees.
The arrest in November was just the latest in a history of arrests for personal possession of marijuana. Patoski suggests that Nelson is almost untouchable by the law for his marijuana use. Even the county attorney announced (also in a joking way) that he was never going to be mean to Willie Nelson. But it seems that most people in law enforcement really feel that way.
Though, Nelson returns the favor. Last November, Nelson put a link on his website for the charity of choice of the sheriff's department that arrested him. The sheriff's department was raising money for Christmas presents for needy children, and Nelson asked fans visiting his website to not be mad at the law enforcement that arrested him but, instead, to donate to their Christmas present drive.
