Wiring lowes hps kit to a plug

Like the thread says, i bought lowes 100 watt hps kit to grow one plant. The kit is pretty much assembled from the factory excerpt that i will like to put a plug on the wires so i can plug it into a receptacle.

One wire is colored white. The other is black or very dark green. Is white ground and black live wire? My plan is to simply cut off a plug from an old 100watt or better lamp and then test the recepticle with a multimeter to find which one is live and then join the old plug to the new hps kit.
So please confirm to me if white is ground and black/dark is live wire.

Also, this hps kit has dusk to dawn sensor thingy. Will it affect the light operation in any way? Is it compatible with timers?
PS, i lost the diagram when i cleaned my room that's why am inquring. If any of you folks have tractor trailer questions, feel free to ask. Am a liscenced truck mechanic.

Get a thick extension cord or a computer power cable and cut it. There will be three wires. Black to black. White to white. You will have one wire you will not use which will probably be green or green/yellow. This is where you connect the ground of the unit. From your description, it seems like there is no ground cable on your HPS unit... just two wires. Just cover up the open end of the ground wire with electrical tape.

I know for sure the black is live wire. I'm not exactly sure what the white is called.

make sure its not a multi wire ballast and your not trying to run 110 threw the 220 side of things

I am not an electrician but my dad was LOL. The white wire is called neutral. In the main breaker box, and ONLY in the main breaker box, this is treated the same as ground. Nowhere else should white be connected with ground. I know no one has suggested doing that here, I'm just sayin, in case someone noted that in the box.
