With so much to choose from how do you know what to get??

So I am browsing herbies head shop and attitude seedbank and I just can't figure out what to order next. I started growing and bought the TH Seeds anniversary bundle pack and had decent results from it, favorites being Ultra Sour and Sage and Sour.

But lets get back to the question at hand how do you choose? I like the idea of ordering cannabis cup winners because they basically have a resume to back up the hype that is posted on each strain. But there are 100s of cannabis cup winners so how do I choose. I can surf RIU and you have people argue back and forth over what is best so how do you choose?? What is the best you can buy right now? What is the best strain that everyone wants to grow (indoors)... I hate guessing and don't want to waste money on a mediocre strain. Any help with your personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully you live within driving distance of a collective because that's the only way I could start to put names with some of the stuff I love. You have to smell them until you find one that makes your mouth water then try a gram of that. One thing I do is smell the buds of the clones the collective has on hand because most times they have it. Lastly there's a ton of research to find the strains you want in seed form because you really should see what the guys on riu say. I placed a couple orders recently haven't grown any of it yet though I've been surviving off of buying clones dominantly.

It comes down to what you are looking for out of a strain you grow. You have to decide on flavor and effect you are seeking and then begin to narrow down the choices from there. As Amos said, peruse some of the more trafficked threads in this sub forum and you will come away with an idea of where to send your hard earned dollars for the results you are looking for.

you have to do 12/12 from seeds for a few years, grow a handful of seeds from every breeder that appeal you, grow a wide diversity, OG, skunky, fuelly, fruity, coffee, putrid (dog shit).... until you figure out what is it you like

I recommend breeders of regular seed genetics, non auto-flowering and non-feminized

lot of banks allow you to order only 1 seed per strain

make seeds with your favourite females and random males from your favourite strains....

After a few years you will start to know what is it you like as far as highs, flavors, smells...

I am starting to look at breeding cannabis like chasing the dragon, you never actually get the holy grail.

I never had access to clones, the only option for me from day 1 was to order seeds, I have grown well over 100 strains from various breeders, maybe even 2-300 including my own crosses. What I have found over the years is everybody is different and some stuff I think is total garbage until some friend asks for more. I make a point of never growing crosses I didnt like regardless of what my friends say, I want my plant selection to reflect my taste... lifelong journey!! I gotta say though I have got some killer strains in the budding room :bigjoint:

Whatever you think looks and sounds good you can search for grows and reviews but yeah it ain't easy to choose must be over 100 breeders.

only in the last year I have probably grown over a 100 strains now that I come to think of it, I am still searching what it is that I like so for the most part I might have 15-20 plants in the budding room and 15-20 different strains, I run a perpetual diverse garden, really is the way to go for the hobby grower, the other thing like others have stated here is go with reputable breeders like bodhi, archive, tga (lots of hate on here but you gotta try their flavors!!)

In the end, the best strains I have ever grown were my own crosses I made using my favorites plants from the likes of bodhi, tga, reggae seeds ( they have really nice plants however I am worried they include ruderalis in the mix, I might be wrong, still some of the best I have grown, Respect was...) also used a lot of Jordan of the Island but I have found that most strains I have grown from Jordan eventually shoot bananas, if you select carefully though it can be bred out... but yeah best to stay with the most stable genetics around.

my very very best crosses ever are

(Chemo X Respect) X (Ancient OG) ended up with a lucky resiny high yielding pheno that smells OG like earthy fuelly and like anise a bit, great bag appeal, great high and great yield, I just hit that girl with some Dragon fruit and SkyLotus, looking forward to those too!!

Spacebomb X Medicine, taken to F3 s through selective breeding, some phenos smell like fresh pussy and some other pheno like pinacolada pineapple like

over the years, those are the 2 that stood out and are still being used and or grown.

That's what I'm saying GreenSanta without a collective nearby it becomes a huge task to try so many strains. I have found my keepers mostly in clone only form from collectives. Although I've grown from seed also especially when I want a great potency with a terrific yield. I think a lot of folks have the same idea sometimes. I did a search and found this thread, I haven't read it yet was going to do that now then Google the strain names to read. https://www.rollitup.org/t/high-yielding-strains.895874/

Wanna see a seed I have that I haven't grown yet? Flower Time 7 weeks!!! 3-5% cbd and 15-20% thc
Here's where I got it: https://www.cannabis-seeds.co.uk/medicalseeds/channel.html
Here's Allbud Review: https://www.allbud.com/marijuana-strains/hybrid/channel
Will start flowering this one in October I will have photos.

its not a huge task, has to be part of the hobby though. I personally get bored whenever I have to smoke the exact same weed for too long, I like to smoke different strains throughout the day. Growing 12/12 from seed when I started (which I still do to sex my plants...) has really allowed me to learn what a good plant is and what isnt, if you grow seeds from reputable breeders, and you have enough know how as a grower, you are sure to find killer plants from time to time, and once you know what a nice plant should look like, it becomes easier to select the strains you want in your garden. If you don't have a lot of experience yet, like I said earlier, the key is diversity.
