i've hated getting stoned since the first time i did around 1987, so i'm all about hazes though most don't come close to living up to the hype of the real deal. like you'd even have to ask with this handle.
nowadays though, i'm really liking hybrids that have nice reasonably motivated euphoric buzzes with some sativa trippiness too like jack's cleaner 2 which is reasonably sized and finishes in just 9 weeks with a unique stone that's part high, a little stoned and very touchy feely.
i think most people would rather be high than stoned, us "old timers" that were spoiled by the good old days especially, though almost half of smokers are happy right in the middle with mid buzzes and hybrids. people that demand getting stoned only are in the minority with about twice that number demanding getting high only as the next biggest minority acording to this poll's results so far

most hazes don't live up to the hype at all. the "best" i've tried so far is DNA sweet haze which is nice, but not as trippy as columbian gold. HQS' haze x skunk isn't as trippy either, but it's REALLY potent and long lasting and never degrades to stony like gold would after a month.
just as too much of an afghani (or kush) dominated strain will have the undesirable effect of putting you to sleep (unless that was your goal), too much of a pure sativa can be even worse. when you smoke a potent undiluted sativa, you can get twitchy paranoia, even with your heart racing or if you take one big hit too many, even a really awful effect where it feels like the room is spinning and making you nauseous. closer to the middle, you can get the best of both worlds... a laugh your ass off euphoric strain that heightens your senses making music sound live and movies seem more real, but with the calming balance of indicas to keep you mellow and relaxed.
you can get any kind of buzz in between the extremes too, but me, personally? i just hate buzzes that do nothing but make you tired and stupid. if my coworkers blazed me out with that instead of columbian, i never would have blazed a second time and even then, it took some peer pressure to get me to try as i got nothing taking hits out of a cousin's clogged bowl once.

Ogs/chems would be the over all consensus these days for top smoke. People who grow their own will prob disagree more, hence why they grow a specific strain..
If your an old timer or trying to impress one get a paki x moroc, panama x columbian, or something and they'll praise you claiming they smoked very similar hash or flower decades ago..

I do love the peppery taste and high I get from the OG Kush have never grown it but I've donated for it a few times. I grow a GDP x OG Kush cross called Gods Gift that comes really close to the high and taste of the OG Kush but with the aroma from the GDP.
Super Silver Haze (one of the original hazes to be worked) is among my all time favorites, the cut I had was amazing. The onset of the high was couch lock, very narcotic but that subdued about 10minutes in and you were left feeling happy and very energetic.
If I had to choose between only smoking kush's or only smoking hazes I'd got Haze fuck don't like being couch locked ALL the time. Kush and Haze are almost losing their meaning these days though

Getting high is good when your young and acctive, most stoners want medicinal strains that chill them out.
Look at the naturaly hyper people, they wont to get stonned and chill not get high and go even wilder...

The reason that people in general, not just medical users will probably prefer smoking chouch lock indica types. Is sativa and sativa dominant type strains, don't do that well indoors.
That's why you see so many people growing something like Cinderella, sort of a pseudo frankenstein strain, that does have some qualities of extreme sativas, that will flower in a fairly quick time frame. And it does ice up very well, excellent for hash production, as a lot of sativas tend not to be.

In the days of old, I use to see numerious exotic imports, I didn't know what shwag was back then. Pot was good, cheap an pleantiful.
Fellows like Marc Emery, who although a couple years older then me, actually didn't start smoking until after I did. Tell me that thought of potent wonderful exotic sativas, was just a faulty memory in my head.
I saw a fellow on here "Brick Top", he got it right on the sativas he was talking about. Put a lot of pictures of sativas in on a thread I was looking at, I found quite interesting.
Emery was saying it was all in my head, but that would mean just because I haven't had a beer in a long time (and I haven't) that I couldn't remember what one tasted like, or the kind of buzz it would give me. Which would of course be ridiculous, wouldn't it?

If you look over on Mr nice forum you will find old school pics from "The seedbank" catalogue.
But pot and hash "Back in the days" its normaly when your young so even an 1/2 decent skunk will knock you for 6.
That siad I was a regulare smoker then and still am now. And most the old school Hash I would buy over most of todays skunks.
Forgot Howards Marks was shifting cannabis back then so it was quality tested for sure
