'YouTube video traps cannabis grower'

''A cannabis grower let police in on his secret hobby after posting home videos of the crop on YouTube, it has emerged.
The 25-year-old was arrested after officers saw footage on the website documenting the stages of growth at his home in Bridgwater, Somerset.
The man made his arrest even easier after using his real name as his "internet handle".
Police searched the house and seized one large cannabis plant and associated hydroponics equipment used to maximise heat and light conditions.
PC Adrian Peck, of Avon and Somerset police, said: "The male had been videoing the growth of the plant over a number of months and uploading his horticultural endeavours onto the site to document it - providing us with fairly conclusive evidence.
"The cultivation of cannabis is illegal. If you break the law and are foolish enough to then advertise your criminal activities on the internet, it makes it very easy for the Police to catch you."
Police said the cannabis produced by the single plant could have had a potential street value of up to £500; both the plant and growing equipment will be destroyed.
The man admitted the offence of cultivating cannabis, now a Class B drug, and received an official police warning.
The force said it was not its policy to release the names of people who are warned and confirmed that the videos have been removed from the site. ''

Any thoughts? I thought hydroponics kit was used to control the nutrients reaching the plant's roots...? :?

I've never heard of this happening before. You would think they would go after someone with more than 1 plant!!! Stupid bobbies! Is that how you spell it?

haha, just read this somewhere else.

but you beat me to the post, you little bitch! :D

does seem like a lot of work for the police to do for such a small "op"

there's bigger on there i'm sure,

they're just making an example of him now that cannabis is a class B over here. no matter how small your operation is, the police will hunt you down!

or choose the other option...

DON'T BE A DUMBASS!

That's probably one of the main things that gave him away, using his real name for his videos. Police in the UK are raiding ops like never before - I read in my local paper of 30 raids in a month in a small area of the UK...

Pretty much. And because of all these raids, bud's getting rare as rocking horse shit in my area now, can only get solids which I can't stand because it's always soapbar. Good job I've got a reserve stash of pollen and some seeds busy germinatin' lol.

There has to be more to this story.
What does posting your name have to do with anything?
I'm sure his handle wasn't john sam doe at 1312 loomin road apt #1.
You have any idea how meany cannabis videos are on youtube?
In the states, it would be next to impossible to obtain a warrant.
1) timeline issues. 2) proff of location of plant residency. 3)proff of actual cannabis.

I think someone ratted him out and pointed the video out to the police.
..I could be wrong.

not the same for ppl in the u.k the goverment are trying to push for a law where they can see evry Email or phone call everyone make! thats fucking shocking

Wednesday 13th August 2008 Government proposes email and internet tracking 9:01AM, Wednesday 13th August 2008 The Government will store "a billion incidents of data exchange a day" as details of every text, email and browsing session in the UK are recorded under new proposals published yesterday. The information will be made available to police forces in order to crack down on serious crime, but will also be accessible by local councils, health authorities and even Ofsted and the Post Office.
One example of crime prevention using the data given in the consultation document is that of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection agency, which targets sexual abuse of children.
"The vast majority of CEOP's work is by resolution of IP addresses, e-mail addresses and increasingly mobile phone number
During the period March to June 2008 CEOP identified 96 suspects (who have been arrested) and safeguarded 30 children through the use of internet related data," explains the consultation document, which goes on to explain that petty crime and even instances of self harm will be tackled using the new measures.
Another example was given in which a UK citizen had been talking in an internet chatroom about self-harming, when local police tracked down his address via his IP number and ISP and intervened to save him.
However, the information will also be made available to local councils, health authorities and other Government bodies such as Ofsted.
"The main reason for it is to assist in the investigation of crime," says a Home Office spokesperson. "Each local council can make a decision for themselves on what is the most interest to them."

The move has attracted criticism from the Conservatives, however, including Dominic Grieve, the Shadow Home Secretary.
"Yet again the Government has proved itself unable to resist the temptation to take a power quite properly designed to combat terrorism to snoop on the lives of ordinary people in everyday circumstances."

WOW.. it really doesnt surprise me.. I mean, I have always wondered why ppl make those videos and grow journals etc if there NOT LEGAL CARD HOLDERS.. Its kinda like raping someone or beating someone up or commiting any other crime and then putting the vid on youtube.. Its just stupidity.. Some ppl just have that "Hey Look At ME" gene though.. lol. I have the opposite gene(s).. I have the "WTF R U Looking At ?" and the "Stop Looking At Me, Jeez" genes ,lol.

Hmm, I wonder how many LEO's or LEA's look at this site to bust ppl.
